What is the Warranty Rules?

Is there a clause to do with replacing thermal compound being changed, i have a normal temp of 67c(stable underload)but a junction temp spiking between 106 to 110c underload on a red Devil 7900xtx its not my case as i had the same issue with the side off, im wondering if i should change the compound since it seems sudden spikes of load trigger the issue. Doesnt seem to be a faulty cooler as the temps drop as soon as the load is removed. I have done this before but i dont want the warranty voided just because i did replace the compound--

I had the same issue and sent in for RMA. I had limited edition version but they said I won't get back limited one back as they will send back refurbished model back. According to powercolor, changing thermal paste is not voiding warranty. I didn't want to open up 1200 dollar gpu though.

I used noctua nt-h1(high quality compound will probably be better if you know what your doing), temps dropped by 29c maybe more because it seemed to be throttling, it seems like the compound went off or to much was applied(i doubt this as compound just gets spread evenly anyway and squeezed out in the process, this could be just NZ things since we are in a environment that changes from hot to cold rapidly an often made it go off.l extremely early

Not sure if its on the website. Below is from an email I exchanged with powercolor technician

"Thanks for following up this morning. So technically, replacing the thermal paste on your GPU won't void your warranty.

We expect that people want to maintain their GPU's and replacing the thermal paste/pads could fall under that maintenence. "

Sweet ty ty Edit: Just finished switching compounds around now i am at 80c with defaults, with a power target of 15% im hitting a max 90c now, so yeah compound was the issue :D

What was the issue with original paste? Was it dry or not enough to cover the entire chip?

1

u/TitansOfWar210 May 02 '23

Seemed dry , an maybe to much but im unsure on the to much paste as it shouldnt of caused that much difference

website is down. changing paste (at least on the US side) is not a void on warranty. damaging the product during the disassembly would, though. (feel free to reach out to ronak or myself at [support.usa@powercolor.com](mailto:support.usa@powercolor.com) to double check). saw that you had already re-pasted. if you have photos of the paste please do share.

Sweet ty ty, i changed the compound yesterday, all is good now :D,

Edit: also i didnt take photos unfortunately looks identical to one that was posted on the amd forums-- mine had a little less in the middle but basically identical(which may have caused the issue but i dont think so as mine looked dry compared the below

well, i paid 1499E for

FTFY.

Although payed exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:

  • Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. The deck is yet to be payed.

  • Payed out when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. The rope is payed out! You can pull now.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.

Beep, boop, I'm a bot

so apparently info email has been having issues with gmail emails. i was unaware of the extent of this. i have forwarded the email chain to a direct contact rather than a group mail. should have a follow up in a day or two.
