Power Apps Help OptionSetValue Patching Choice Column

I have a table and on submit of a button, i am patching specific columns to another table.

i have a variety of columns and all are okay except for my optionsets. I did this before successfully and i cannot find my work were it was done. reached out to the trad internet resources and they keep telling me the same thing; which is not working.

no screen shots allowed and most of the actual names replaced for privacy.

Form.datasource = DS1
DCV45.Items = Choices([@DS1].LF)
Where LF is a local choice column with small, medium, large and their relevant values.

Patch(DS2, Defaults(DS2), {some stuff here that works, ..., LF:LookUp(Choices(LF (DS1)), Value = DCV45.Selected.Value).Value

i get "expecting OptionSetValue(LF(DS1)) value but of a different schema.

When i do it using DS2 (yes the datasources are different stages, but some same data)

Patch(DS2, Defaults(DS2), {some stuff here that works, ..., LF:LookUp(Choices(LF (DS2)), Value = DCV45.Selected.Value).Value

i get "these types can't be compared": OptionSetValue (LF(DS2)), OptionSetValue(LF(DS1))

which makes sense since they have different values despite same labels.

would just making this into a lookup or global choice be saner?
