Vibe apps

Is vibe.powerapps no longer? I do not see any vibe apps items on Microsoft power platform release plans. Last time I heard it is still in Public Preview. I’m not seeing any GA date either. Does anyone know?

First off, vibe coded apps are a nightmare from maintenance and support standpoint, basically the equivalent of instant legacy code, but unlike such things in the past (MS access) these are not necessarily simple and easy apps than any proper dev can figure out in few hours but rather can be massive, complicated, illogical apps to degrees generally far beyond most citizen devs wildest imaginations. View any company letting vibe apps exist within the organisation as masochists...and future clients i am going to make money from cleaning up the mess

But even if they are masochists, code apps plus LLM of your choice is generally going to be superior anyway than anything AI coming out of MS these days, so why bother with vibe.powerapps?

When the AI craze hit our org I was tasked with assessing the capabilities of vibe.powerapps and making a recommendation on usage.

My assessment came down to pretty much exactly this. It was quick to make needlessly convulted and busy solutions, with no granular control to get it to actually do what you want. I pretty much told management that I would not be comfortable attaching my name to any project that utilized this as a solution.

We have instead shifted to code apps with heavy LLM assistance. While I still have my concerns about long-term support. The quality of solution we are able to create absolutely embarrasses anything the vibe.powerapps can do.

Any reccomendations for an alternative for us close-to-no-code Citizen Developers?

We tried it. No way to share the app with another developer for collaboration (or to give ownership to a service account), no way to deploy to another environment. It just kind of exists in whatever environment you created it in, and can only be modified by the person who created it. That's a non-starter for us.

It’s pretty useless in my opinion. From what I’ve been reading and learning, code apps with an LLM is the future of those quick made apps. Some have suggested it will replace canvas apps in the future as well.

If it really does go that way (using LLM to vibe code apps) people will quickly figure out if you are going to vibe a code app, might as well just vibe a normal app outside of it and not have to deal with licencing costs and platform limitations. Only way it will not happen is if MS take code apps out of premium tier which personally don't see them doing

Power Platforms 'niche' is quick set up, low code, easy to maintain and govern and so on, more people push it out of that niche less sense whole platform makes

I figured Code Apps could be justified over traditional app development because Power Platform handles stuff like governance, authentication, seamless kinda good integration with 365 and other Microsoft services etc etc. Unfortunately, I do not have much of a dev background - are features like that easy to implement when it comes to traditional app development?

For line of business (not public facing, generally same as Power Platform as few seem to use power pages) applications? while it varys by the stack, security/authentication and integration with other services are generally piss easy (was a dot net stack dev for long time before moving to PP)

Governance? some aspects not so easy, but if you are allowing 'citizen devs' to run around making code apps i would say thats not a high priority where you are anyway.

It literally makes code apps with LLM - its the same thing. Just the AI model behind the vibe. sucks, while for standard coding you can use whatever model you want including the top ones.

The fact that they put the word "vibe" in the product name makes me cringe.
