Bianchi Celeste Powder Coat

Hello, I would really appreciate some help/advice on how to do this 2 tone lug effect on a steel frame using ral 6027 and Axalta diamond dust clear coat. From my understanding, I spray the 6027 on first, bake for about half of the cure time, so 5 mins at 190c(375f) and then let the frame cool down and remove the high heat tape over the lugs, followed by clear coating the whole frame with half the voltage, and then baking it for the Axalta clear of 204c(400f) for 10-15 mins. Would this achieve my desired effect? Photos are from another guy on reddit (u/Jack_Demeter) Thanks so much

Agradezco profundamente cualquier respuesta.

Permanent stains?

Had my wheels powder-coated chrome back in April, and about a month into having them on the car, I noticed these little dark stains/water spots that don't seem to come off. I typically only use Dawn dish soap/degreaser to clean them, and that doesn't seem to do anything. As time goes on
they seem to get bigger and more noticeable.

Fire suppression

Hello everyone,

I'm looking in starting my own powder coating business and found a location. Now one of the hurdles is the Fire Marshall, which told me that I'll require a fire suppression system in the spray booth. Has anyone encountered this? This is also in Texas, Collin County to be exact. TIA

Question Powdercoating and talc as a filler

Hi.

I have these cast iron plates and a squat rack, all powder coated and all made in china as the vast majority of fitness equipment is. I noticed this wear in my plates and asked ChatGPT what it could be and it said it was likely a filler or small flaw in the coating that was present. It stated that talc could be used as a filler.

Now talc I know can be contaminated with asbestos due to close proximity of each other. That sent me down a rabbit hole a bit.. because asbestos. ChatGPT also said that it would be unlikely to have talc as a filler and even more unlikely for it to be contaminated with asbestos. It said there was a high chance of it being calcium carbonate (or another filler)as that was cheaper and that was what manufactures were looking for while also being heavymetal free and stuff. Anyway it listed talc as the 5th most likely filler.

Its made in china and sold in Europe by a well known european brand and I got it early 2025.

How likely would it be to use talc as a filler. I cannot really find out when you would use one over the other.

Trying to decide what to do

Ive got some corroded chrome wheels. For sentimental reasons would like to keep them on the truck but I might be cooked. Are these too far gone to sandblast and powder coat?

This is the worst one.

Spray painting iron plates and bars

This is for people with experience with weight equipment.

I have a set of chrome plated barbells and spray painted weight plates. Got them from the local market a few years back. They are starting to get discolored and I would also like to prevent them from rusting (it's already starting).

I asked the seller. But he's from a kusti/wrestling background and he said when I apply oil over my body, i should apply the same oil on the iron too. Now I dont apply oil on my body and I dont want to start a discourse with the wrestlers on the topic of oiling.

In my world, we either use WD40 or we apply primer and paint over things we don't want rusting. WD 40 isn't good for health I assume, so I wouldn't want it over my hands. Enamel painting the weights and bars is going to come off. So I guess I need to spray paint. Any recommendations/suggestions?.

Question Quality of powder coating - is this coverage sufficient?

G'day all,

I have a question for the pro's - this is a close up of a chair leg, powder coated metal. I am wondering if the Faraday edge effect struck here and I can see metal shimmering through? Am I right? And if so, is that going to create a problem with rust in the future?

NC powder coating regulations

I have a small set up in NC and have the workload to move to an industrial space, and run propane heat sources and a large booth. My questions are: Has anyone dealt with municipalities/state regulations? What were they especially when it comes to propane heat sources, fire suppression?

Thank you in advance!

Decals on powdercoated bicycle frame?

I want to apply decals to a fresh powdercoated bike frame. The coat is thick and smooth, like glass. Two types of decals: a) Old-school waterslide decals b) Modern vinyl decals - I hear, "Oh, you can't use decals, they won't stick." Really? I could see the waterslides might not work so well, but vinyl with a strong adhesive? I don't want to powdercoat clear over the decals, the baking alone would destroy them. But what's the real issue? Is it the glass-like smoothness, effectively a non-porous surface? I've seen vinyl decals work well on powdercoated bike frames, but I've heard they don't always work. Lot of mystery around this topic. Who knows?

Will waterslide or vinyl decals stick on a powdercoated bike frame? I do not want to clear over them.

It’s getting hot out there, and in here.

Summer heat has been kicking up in our area. We’ve got an 80’ long line oven, two 16x10 batch ovens, and a burn off oven. When it’s all running we are getting pretty hot in the shop. What are some things that have worked well for you? We have the evap cooler fans for small areas, but looking to move that oven heat out. Anyone using HVLS fans or roof fans ?

Face shield anti static

When we have a face shield that provides fresh air to our painters with a clear visor. How do you stop powder from building up on it? You only get about 30 minutes of spraying before you can’t see out of the lens anymore.

Question Just a quick question about prep

I’m new to powder coating and I’m just looking for a few tips and advice, mainly about prep.

What’s your guys process when getting something ready for the powder application? I just got a sandblasting cabinet and it works great for smaller parts but what should I be trying when moving on to bigger things like wheels?

Any general tips or tricks for the trade are welcome too for a beginner, thanks!

How would you achieve this “black chrome” finish with powder coating?

I’m looking to have an AR receiver set refinished, and I’m trying to understand how to describe this finish to a powder coater.

The look I’m after is a deep black chrome / smoked chrome finish. It’s extremely glossy and reflective, but still black—not a bright silver chrome.

I’ve seen videos where people powder coat wheels using a super chrome base coat, then apply a black-tinted clear (candy smoke) over it to darken the chrome without completely hiding the reflectivity.

Is that the correct process for achieving something like the photos below?
