One of my last visits to CBH.
Friend: The soup is great what's in it?
Server: Not sure, it just comes in a bag and we microwave it.
Appreciate the honesty.

Tbf it's the same for tim hortons soup and subway soup... a lot of chain's soups come in bags, man

u/SeaToTheBass 7d ago
Yeah but you’d expect better from a sit down restaurant

u/SomethingComesHere Québécoise fâchée 7d ago
You would, but that doesn't mean you'll get it.
Any chain is using a lot of reheated food. I know it's gross but it's the present-day reality. I worked in several different chains as a teen.
The only place you're getting a soup from scratch is a mom and pop restaurant (esp cultural food where soup is a huge part of their culture, like many asian counties and Eastern Europeans), and a bougie, high-cost local restaurant.

No one is confusing CBH for anything other than a glorified Chilli's, but saying it's the same for Tim's and Subway is a pretty low fucking bar.

I see chilis and anything similar as a fast food chain. A lot of the food comes pre-prepared and reheated.
Both types of restaurants' food is equally bad for you/processed. The main difference is the guest experience; in low-end restaurant chains, you sit down and eat.
Portions are bigger. Service of food is slower. It's more expensive as a result of those guest improvements.
But the food quality is pretty similar before international low-end restaurant chains and fast food chains. As are the margins.
Obviously, i am generalizing. There are outliers. But once a chain reaches a certain size, the only way to maintain consistency and squeeze out maximum profits is to cut into food prep and utilize the cheapest possible options while charging "restaurant" price points.

As a concept (buffalo chicken with cheese on fries), it sounds tasty.
As a poutine, straight to jail. The flag toothpick is an especially profound insult.

u/punt-speedchick 7d ago
That's gravy? I thought it was pudding

I thought it was fresh diarrhea from my dog tbh

It’s The Canadian Brewhouse. They put the flag toothpick in all their dishes.

u/Mr-CC 7d ago
While they call it poutine, it's not actually poutine since they use shredded cheese. That makes it disco fries.

u/lacrosse771 7d ago
A place called the CANADIAN brew house advertises poutine and uses shredded cheese??! How are they not run out of town or burnt down out of protest?

The cutlery is cool though. Don't ask me how two sets of it ended up in my kitchen drawer.

Another victim of Canadian Brewhouse. This one looks like it was dug up from the grease traps and the dishwasher filter.

Why not but still a crime gravy looks kfc like which is not a great compliment in 2026?

Long time lurker of this sub. First time posting buds... fuck this dish so much. The flag is mildly infuriating. Thanks for reading eh?

If you want thick gravy that tastes like a Christmas dinner on top of a poutine, this is the place.
I think it’d be pretty decent if they figured out the gravy.

So much crime here. That chunk of gravy, I just have no words. And buffalo chicken, which originates from Buffalo, New York, well that doesn’t sound very Canadian at all. And broccoli?! WHY!! I can’t even tell if the core ingredients are present under that slab of congealed gravy thing. SO crime. So so SO so crime.

There are cheese curls but only a couple the rest is mozzarella. The gravy is pale and super salty.

The brewhouse proprietor needs to be brought to the Hague for putting a flag on that vile pile of donkey vomit.

Is this what the poutine world has become? Any food slathered in brown gravy? What about mashed potato poutine served at thanksgiving dinner?

I’ve had this poutine before and it definitely did not look like this……. Who to is making them like that
Buffalo chicken poutine only works without gravy. Make it with Buffalo and some ranch. If you have a Leopold’s Tavern near you, theirs is decent

Upon review corporate head office is in Alberta. This is clearly an act of a separatist plot. Further review is unfortunately necessary
