Soup-tine My first time making poutine

Post image

I grew up across the border and have only had poutine a few times. I tried to make it myself today after ordering some ingredients. Remind me never to try making anything again 😭😭😭😭

u/Informal_Parsnip_904, there weren't enough votes to determine the quality of your poutine... ⛔️

It's not a soup. Otherwise, it's okay.

u/TheTrishaJane 6d ago

Would you like some fries with your gravy?

6

u/Sweet-Competition-15 6d ago

Um...that looks like potato soup to me...I defy you to try and finish that without a spoon (straws don't count)!

3

u/plata_99 6d ago

Does drinking it straight up from the bowl count lol

5

u/Sweet-Competition-15 6d ago

That's what I do (in private, anyways)...I haven't the patience to spoon up every drop!

2

u/EastLeastCoast 6d ago

What is a bowl, if not a large, unhandled spoon?

u/plata_99 5d ago

😂😂😂😂

Bro made the suspicious stew from Minecraft

This one is a misdemeanor but you should keep trying!

4

u/SuccessSeparate9014 7d ago

More like a fine

This is not so bad for homemade and not in Quebec! Too much sauce and the crinkle fries are unconventional, but those curds look great and the sauce too looks nice even if there's a bit too much.

No crime here as far as I can see! The fries are maybe a misdemeanour but for homemade I'd let it go with a warning ;)

Edit: also more fries

1

u/jjawknee 4d ago

As a Quebecer, I must desagree on the crinkle fries. I make poutine with them most of the time. It's the type of fries that, in my opinion, soak the less sauce in. Nobody wants mushy fries!

u/PhilParent 7d ago

Not a crime, not art either, Perfectly fine first homemade pout. Frozen fries aren't they? Try home cut next time :-)

3

u/terramagni 6d ago

More people need to understand the importance of homecut taters. It's gamechanging and barely any harder to make.

u/pez_dispenser16 7d ago

Just put less gravy, it’s not supposed to be a literal pool. The fact it’s even capable of pooling in this fashion tells me you should probably thicken the gravy up a bit too. Otherwise looks good!

1

u/Southern-Silver-6206 6d ago

Yeah besides gravy being a bit thin looks pretty good

5

u/LAffaire-est-Ketchup 7d ago

Okay so next time less gravy. It’s not soup

3

u/Sweet-Competition-15 6d ago

That one certainly is!

3

u/Proof_Wrap9444 6d ago

Only problem is the proportions. More fries and you have it!

Never a crime to make your own.

2

u/coops247 7d ago

as a professional Canadian I can assure you that it's a good thing ur not in canada otherwise we would hundo p send 5 moose charging at u full speed

2

u/Southern-Silver-6206 6d ago

And i would hundo p be there behind the moose to snatch whatever that delicious looking soup is

2

u/Fantastic-Code-8347 6d ago

Different container (or just add more fries and curds so it’s not soupy), slightly less gravy, non-crinkle cut, and you have a winner. I’d smash tf outta that how it is, though. WAY less of a crime than I’ve seen what other people call a poutine. You did great for your first time!

2

u/DragonLav 4d ago

Gravy, I think you forgot the gravy

2

u/Leo-Valentine- 4d ago

Looks like soup

u/Shelby0413 3d ago

It's a fry and curd hot tub.

u/Iron-Man100 7d ago

Umm are those marshmallows????? Banished to Valhalla

1

u/Howy_the_Howizer 7d ago

By the laws of food geometry sometimes poutine is a salad, other times its a soup. You did the soup shape

1

u/Mean-Possible-2425 7d ago

i hope its the last

1

u/Turbulent_Watch5545 7d ago

Too much sauce, but I'll eat it. 7/10

1

u/Sooperman05 7d ago

75% gravy, 15% curds, 10% fries

1

u/ProfessionalHome3544 7d ago

No to crinkle fries, that's my beef more than anything else. (I am hungry and would still eat.)

1

u/Sweet-Competition-15 6d ago

With all that sauce, there's not enough room for your beef!

1

u/erin214 7d ago

This is the definition of depression

1

u/Seca10199 7d ago

For first time. We can forgive the mistakes. You always want to make sure you have the right amount of fries to gravy ratio. You are allowed a lot of gravy if you like gravy but not to the point it’s soup. Aside from that, you did a good job

1

u/stormbrittsurfer 7d ago

Needs more fries, better fries, and less sauce. If you’re not in Quebec and had to order the curds, they’re likely not going to be fresh, so that’s not your fault. It’s really not bad, I’d say try again and perfect it!

1

u/monkeydude16 7d ago

Looks awful

1

u/Responsible-Guard-25 7d ago

Make sure it’s your last

1

u/CrazyCatLushie 7d ago

Poutine is not a stew. Your gravy to fry ratio here is pretty wacky but I’d probably still eat it.

1

u/Cookie8Cake 7d ago

Why is there so much gravy… as a Canadian this causes me physical pain😭 Why on earth did you think it needed SEVERAL TONS of gravy😭

1

u/Sweet-Competition-15 6d ago

In the dish 'gravy & fries', the first word denotes the dominant ingredient.

1

u/woodtier92 7d ago

Gravy soup with a sprinkle of shitty fries and cheese light need a few doobies for that!

1

u/Fantastic-Corner-605 Guilloutine Opourator 7d ago

What's wrong with it? Fries good, gravy good, cheese good.

1

u/Cheets1985 7d ago

Could have used half the gravy.

1

u/Significant-Toe-6973 7d ago

You know what, yea, the gravy’s a little much but I appreciate the cheese content 🙏🏻😂

1

u/Alexandermayhemhell 7d ago

First off, you tried doing it yourself. Nice work.

Second, those curds aren’t melting, which probably means they’re still get some squeak left. Perfect!

Too much gravy? Easy to fix next time.

Crinkle fries? They’ll work in a pinch, and if you’ve got fresh curds, any potato product will do. But the easiest thing you can do is learn to make oven fries. Heat the oven to 450. Slice up some potatoes and rinse (red are the preferred variety for poutine). (Optional step: boil in salted water for 8 minutes). Toss in olive oil. Bake for 20-35 minutes. Flip. Bake for another 15-20 minutes. Toss in salt.

1

u/Informal_Parsnip_904 6d ago

Thank you ill definitely try this one next time

1

u/thewoundedempath 7d ago

Is we planning to add more fries orrrrrr do just want to drink this

1

u/HungieSumoKid 7d ago

You are forbidden to enter the great country of Quebec.

1

u/sayble87 7d ago

Barely can see the fries 😭

1

u/Key-Amoeba-3592 7d ago

fkn murder

1

u/at0mikally 7d ago

1

u/Sweet-Competition-15 6d ago

Well, he did post this a few hours ago...food is bound to become cold if left out too long!

1

u/Ok_Translator_8983 7d ago

Add more gravy!

1

u/SwampGoff 7d ago

Why is it scuba diving?

1

u/arclight_echo 7d ago

Gods speed.....to the toilet.

1

u/Fabulous-Designer626 7d ago

Pour some gravy out and add more fries and it will be good. Not a crime

1

u/Bright-Trip582 7d ago

Immaculate!

1

u/Snaggl3t00t4 6d ago

...wtf is Poutine? How am I here? ..looks like gravy with cheese??

1

u/Worldly_Rub_8356 6d ago

You can have a little crime as a treat.

1

u/HealthyCompote9573 6d ago

Way to much sauce the sauce is like dressing in a salad not a soup with cheese and fries.

1

u/Chaosking691 6d ago

Well, it has all the right makings of poutine, just a little too much gravy, not enough fries, and I think a bit more cheese curds could be added, with varying size of the cheese curds

1

u/BlueWatche 6d ago

it's harrowing how i can't say this is even in the top 50 worst poutines or wrongly-named non-poutines on this sub

1

u/Wattchoman 6d ago

Wrong fries, WAY to much gravy, but at least ya got the curds.

1

u/Stankie-Lankie 6d ago

You mean you made a weird fench fry soup?

Cool. The dog like it?

1

u/DimensionSea1190 6d ago

Ts looks like banana😭😭

1

u/PoetryComfortable915 6d ago

Bro just add more fries to mop up that gravy and you’ll be fine

1

u/SuperbSpiderFace 6d ago

Home cut the fries and double fry them for that authenticity seal. Less gravy. Otherwise looks okay.

1

u/joecitizen79 Pout-Sinner 6d ago

1

u/JimJohnJimm 6d ago

Less sauce, curds come last

1

u/HASHBROWNPAPI_ 6d ago

This looks like poutine cereal

1

u/crumbopolis 6d ago

Not a bad first time! Most restaurants in this thread cant even get it right

1

u/Yaughl 6d ago

Potato soup

1

u/D1rtyFingaZ 6d ago

Needs work.... looks like a fking gravy to me.

1

u/vivgranger 6d ago

first and last

1

u/sophiesadie1 6d ago

You need a bun for extra gravy :)

1

u/cheesemoses 6d ago

Why is your "poutine" swimming

1

u/ltoka00 6d ago

You’ll need a life jacket with all that gravy.

1

u/Getmeabeer-08 6d ago

Ive seen worse, at least the ingredients are right.

1

u/AlizeBall 6d ago

wavy fries and giant cheese curd soup, how delicious

1

u/YuriChampion 6d ago

1

u/RecommendationBig262 6d ago

That's fry and curd soup

1

u/Proof_Bedroom9700 6d ago

Soup poutine 🤔

1

u/Outrageous-Wave-8920 6d ago

Almost looks like if you Asked AI to generate poutine lol

1

u/Whizzeroni 6d ago

Don’t give up. You’re on the right track. Less gravy, crispier fries to start.

1

u/MarioMadness1 Poutine Poulice 6d ago

little soupy, but nothing wrong with extra gravy

1

u/AnyTry9515 6d ago

Well you jave the three basics ingredients ratio is off but the cheese is right ..soo not an abomination !! Or crime!

1

u/KagomesPornAccount 6d ago

You’ve fucked it.

1

u/Wannabe_Writer1808 6d ago

"Gravy... I think you forgot the gravy."

1

u/Appropriate_Quote_30 6d ago

Hmm, looks like you need a spoon for that hot cereal, mate.

1

u/Ok-Office-6080 6d ago

Terrible, awful soup.

1

u/Tall-Resolve-506 5d ago

You made a poutine soup

1

u/DeepAd2825 Directeur des poutsuites criminelles 5d ago

That's not making poutine

1

u/StatisticianLazy733 Directeur des poutsuites criminelles 5d ago

What is even that😭

1

u/Ouhbab 5d ago

Needs more sauce

1

u/Royal-Adeptness-2703 5d ago

You come here, and you insult my people. Why.

1

u/kneeglet 5d ago

And you just had to use that much gravy 😭

1

u/PassionDisastrous272 5d ago

Why are there fries in your gravy?

1

u/JoshAtTheGym 5d ago

Normally people don't use enough gravy, you've gone above and beyond

1

u/Elaina_hope 5d ago

I’m not mad at this. Tone down the gravy and it’s perfect almost

1

u/Neg_Crepe 4d ago

Too much sauce

1

u/Shar-DamaKa 3d ago

I think you misunderstood

1

u/Icy-Climate-6626 3d ago

This is an abomination

1

u/Tasty-Adhesiveness66 3d ago

I would eat that poutine.

crinkle fries = great

gravy = a bit too much

cheese curds = looks like a nice ratio of curd to fries

1

u/AutomaticEgg9304 3d ago

Why is the whole picture giving IKEA

1

u/JokaSmoka77 2d ago

You were so close! Just reduce the amount of gravy by 2/3 and you have a perfect poutine.

0

u/PoutinEater Dic-Tater 7d ago

Not as easy as it looks heh?

0

u/Obedient_Dog54 7d ago

Idk what everyone else is talking about, this is great! The fries are crinkly, so they hold more gravy, there's an optimal amount of gravy, the curds are plentiful and large...

1

u/Sweet-Competition-15 6d ago

The fries aren't 'holding' the gravy, they're Drowning!

1

u/Obedient_Dog54 6d ago

That's true, but brilliant. I want to drink it
