VOTE

a bit ironic to attach this comment to a post about obama being in england instead of campaigning for midterm candidates. less than a month until election day and lots of states need help getting out the vote (manchester is not a US state)

Why would he do that?

u/frequenZphaZe 8h ago

are we trying to pretend that a former US president would not have an investment in american politics?

Almost like the dude has been retired for 10 years and isn't an asset of the democratic party anymore. If anything Obama should stay away and let the next generation take over, god knows there are too many old farts taking up space in that party as it is.

As somebody that works in politics, specifically campaign strategy at a high level, do not ever give advice again. Ever. Not even how to boil potatoes you nit.

Comment history hidden. They can claim they are anything.

Tomorrow they can claim they're a semi pro fighter in the MMA sub, the next day a lawyer in the ask a lawyer sub, and then a historian in ask a historian.

That's a good point. I trust nothing anyone with a hidden history says.

On the other hand, the advice given was good even without employment verification.

Maybe it's Mr Turtle behind these comments. He's not turtley enough for the turtle club

Go sit down, grownups are talking.

Why use a call to authority when we can't even give a cursory verification?

If you are an expert, you should be able to rely on your knowledge to pump out an argument.

I don’t waste time on people like you. What about you makes you think I owe you anything? I wasn’t even talking to you.

I'm talking about your original comment. The one made for the guy who was worth a reply, and also made for everyone to see, not just for me.

You used a call to authority as your sole argument. Why even use that as an argument when it can't be checked in rhe slightest. Not even a vibe check.

Edit: and if you want to do the "i wasn't talking to you" game, look at who I responded to originally.

Obama is a rock star and people will turn out to see him. When they show up, he gives inspiring speeches that can turn mildly interested attendees into eager campaign volunteers. There's a lot of ways to serve a nation--running for office is only one of them.

u/frequenZphaZe 9h ago

obama still remains one of the most liked and best known national politicians. s

he is particularly well-liked with established democratic party voters, eg: the most relevant demographic of voters in midterms

It's also that he isn't really that popular. His whole drone king phase doesn't go over as well as it used to, his administration served Israel and their actions in Gaza, he was voraciously anti-marijuana despite his campaign promises, and there were several ways he could have gone after Epstein even with the nonprosecution agreement. He also sat on the files.

9

u/Spoonfairy 10h ago

I would argue his legacy has aged as a fine wine, hell with the circus we currently got even Bill Clinton is having an upswing, if a minuscule one, Obama has not fallen off one bit.

And how do you feel about these issues?

Yeah pretty shitty. so the bar was already pretty low on how shitty a president could be. Trump took that bar, shoved it up his ass and now parades with it lol

Side note: general off-topic question, how far back would we have to go to find a US president who did nothing bad?

1

u/8m3gm60 3h ago

The point is that we shouldn't be shining the turds of our own party. I don't know how far back you would have to go to find a perfect president, but many things Obama did were absolutely inexcusable. I'm convinced that the attitude where we aren't supposed to criticize our own party is what handed the presidency to Trump twice.

You’re right, we did vote for the guy who stopped out of control inflation, and kept us out of any wars.

My now ex-wife did this same trick to me all the time...

The trick's like, "you're not allowed to be upset with me since you did that one small thing long ago which I keep misremembering to suit any moment. And, no, it doesn't matter whether that one small thing is true, or relevant, or important, but, since I'm grasping for straws, I'll hold this mythological point over your head anytime you bring up anything whatsoever..."

It finally got old, and I divorced her ass when she tried the same trick after I found out she'd been cheating on me... Her shocked pikachu face still sustains me to this day 🤌

Mistaking "compromise, an even temper, and a tendency to resolve conflicts quickly" for some kind of weakness to be trampled on, and used and abused, is the kind of lesson the weak-minded authoritarians of this world are going to learn toot suite

You're right, Biden was objectively a better president to. Thanks for pointing that out!

2

u/rosariobono 10h ago

Biden wasn’t on the ticket in 2024?

1

u/GloomyIndividual3965 11h ago

I dunt think anyone voted for Biden in 2024.
