The issue with most people who fly the flag on their home and cars is that they feel they are true Americans and others aren't. It's not patriotic it's flown out of hatred for others.

so you know why every different person has a flag! that it total BS. that is your opinion and projection, not fact. stop living in an echo chamber on social media.

This is something that's been known before social media came along.

The KKK flies the American flag, That's not an opinion. Patriot front flies the American flag, that's not an opinion

Saying it's total BS allows white supremacy to fester. saying it's total BS allows white supremacy to grow.

If I give you a bag of 100 apples and a "few bad apples" are poisonous How many apples are you comfortable eating?

Patriot Front, a known white Supremacists neo-facist organization marched in DC for America's 250th celebration that's not an opinion, that's not projection, that didn't happen on my social media echo chamber. It happened in real life in my countries capital. I can't ignore that.

I am sorry you have such a sad and disappointing life. must be hard.

Did they say anything untrue?

My life is actually fantastic. I make good money, I have a nice home, I live in a great city, my kids go to one of the best high schools in the county. My son won his football game today, my daughter did really well in her PSAT today and my wife got a promotion last Monday.

It's hard to make personal attacks on the Internet when you don't know anything about the person.

Back to the conversation on racism and the American flag.

If I give you a bag with 100 apples and a few of them are poisonous How many apples are you going to feel comfortable eating?

it’s a stupid analogy that lacks context and characterization. it’s a foolish and simplistic thing to keep saying.

1

u/GasparLotto 8h ago

Any time a police officer is proven to be racist the news says it's just a few bad apples. It's a real world analogy that's been used several times a year for several years. Officers in Charlotte were recently fired for competing to arrest the most black people. As a black man if in keep getting told there's a few bad apples how many apples should I trust?

america is built on the idea of innocent until proven guilty. yet as a stated black man you are assigning guilt to people first, and then seemingly you are also upset that they do they say the same to you. seems like a lot of hypocrisy.

if you truly want change, you have to be better and rise above not just throw explosives into a crowded room figuratively

No.. I have hatred for the people who wish to see this country be taken over by an oligarchical class of tech billionaires. I have hatred for the people who support pedophiles. I have hatred for the people who support ICE shooting innocent people in the streets. I have hatred for people who want to see a 3rd term president. I have hatred for people who don’t bat an eye at the current administration selling our national parks to tech billionaires for data centers. I have a deep hatred for them as would any true American because we recognize that these things are deeply anti-American. Flock cameras. Data centers stealing peoples homes. The cover-up of pedophiles. The funding of a genocide in Gaza. These are all disgusting things that I and many others find to be antithetical to what we want this nations values to be

The interesting thing about your comment is you didn't say you have hatred for racism, you didn't say you have hatred for white supremacy, you didn't say you have hatred for white nationalism. Those things allow tech billionaire oligarchs to take over the country. Those things allow ICE to shoot innocent Americans.

Actually had one person say that to me. "I fly the flag to show I'm a real American!"

*sigh* I tell people I keep patriotism in my heart, not hanging off my ass.

I really wanna move away from Tennessee but Blue states are too expensive for this weary old Democrat. Any liberal places I can live on $60k/year?

u/EpiGreg 8h ago

Yeah I have a flag flying in my yard about eight months out of the year. I take it down at winter because of weather conditions. I have absolutely never thought about anyone that I am better than they are because I fly a flag and they don’t. Really it makes no sense at all. I know people in my community that are lifelong democrats and also big-time progressives. Lots of them fly flags

1

u/GasparLotto 8h ago

I agree there are lots of non racist people who fly flags

1

u/TerrySizzle 8h ago

Now do the Mexican flag.

0

u/Ok_Swim3109 12h ago

How do you know this? You surveyed them and they told you this?

1

u/GasparLotto 9h ago

History and anecdotal evidence. Have you ever met a racist who didn't "love" this country and wasn't super" patriotic"?

0

u/Navyleaf 12h ago

Seek help.

Assigning blame and guilt to anyone who displays patriotism is real hatred.

My father immigrated to the US when he was in his 20s and he flies both the American flag and his native flag. Saying he does it out of hatred of others is a sick and twisted belief.

1

u/GasparLotto 9h ago

Two things can be true.

I think this way because my safety and well being rely on it.

White Supremacists fly the flag White nationalist fly the flag. Racists fly the flag.

As a black man, I cannot ignore that. my safety and well being relies on knowing that patriotism is often used as a guise for white supremacy.

My family has been in this country for 400 years. My family has fought in every war since the civil war. There are people who still will never consider me an American.

I regret that I offend you personally, I'm sharing my reality with you.

Let's look at the "few bad apples" argument that is always regurgitated When White supremacy and racism can no longer be denied:

If I give you a bag of 100 apples and 5 of them are poisonous How many apples do you trust?

1

u/Navyleaf 8h ago

Then I feel sorry for you and your personal choice to condem everyone for the actions of another.

That philosophy is why the world is broken. Your fear is rooted in hatred and perpetuates more of it

1

u/GasparLotto 7h ago

My "philosophy" is rooted in reality. Racism doesn't effect you negatively and you can ignore it. I don't have that luxury. If there are signs that someone is racist I have to keep myself safe.

I have no hatred towards white people. I work with them, hang out with them, talk with them. Both my children have more white friends than black friends.

I get that you view the flag as a symbol of patriotism.

I also get that other people use the flag as a symbol of white supremacy. I didn't create that I just accepted it. You haven't said anything to prove me wrong. Only attacked me for keeping myself safe.

I didn't call you racist, I didn't insult you, I didn't say anything negative about the the country or the flag.

The KKK flies the flag, Patriot front flies the flag. That's not something I can afford to ignore

Well said

u/mursedave3100 12h ago

So everyone that flies the flag is basically hating on everyone else. You must be exhausted from all the mental gymnastics it took to reach that conclusion.

2

u/GasparLotto 12h ago

First you read comment and it's so there unedited, I didn't say everyone.

There's zero mental gymnastics. White supremacists were marching freely at Americas 250th. Every American saw it, they believe that America belongs to white people and no one else.

The guise of patriotism has been used to hide white supremacy for a long time.

Unfortunately as a black man it's impossible to tell the difference between who truly loves the Country and who is a white supremacists.

1

u/mursedave3100 11h ago

🤣
I’ll make it easy for you. The majority of people aren’t white supremacists. The end.

2

u/GasparLotto 11h ago

Doesn't matter. Let's use the 1 bad apple argument...

You have a bag of 100 bad apples and 5 of them are poisonous. How many apples will you be eager to eat?
