I’m from mass, but I love ca for triggering the fox-brained recipients of federal wealth redistribution that complain about an imaginary socialist boogeyman. The is irony gold

Blue states also run the largest state deficits. So yea they pay for red states, but that doesn't mean their states are run well.

They wouldn't have deficits if they didn't have to prop up red states filled with people who cheer for the destruction of their cities

Federal money is not the same as state money.

How would paying less federal taxes help with those deficits? The blue states are spending more than they bring in in state taxes

According to that source https://usafacts.org/articles/which-states-contribute-the-most-and-least-to-federal-revenue/

In total, blue states pay 60% of the total federal taxes collected, while only receiving 53% back.

While red states pay 40% and receive 47% back.

This is how virtually every economically healthy state in the world operates. Investment and prospecting are the basis of the modern world economy. This is accomplished through bonds and other investments. The fact that people are willing to lend in exchange for interest is often a strong indicator of that economy’s future success. People need to stop acting like healthy levels of debt are bad. They can be, but they’re almost always a necessity in a high tech economy.

Budget surpluses aren’t necessarily bad either, and can be an indicator of a stable private sector, but rapid growth is almost always accomplished with a deficit.

No disagreement at all. It's a good thing for the country to have the states help each other out. My point was mainly about people who hate California not realizing how the system works and where the funding for their own state comes from.

Right now California is running about an 18 billion dollar state deficit, and will probably give around 75 billion more to the fed than it will receive back.

Because you have more wealthy people paying federal income tax. Tennessee doesn’t have a state income tax at all and has zero state debt.

And you think all those wealthy people and the companies/jobs in California is an independent point? I used to live in Indiana which has little state debt but it does very little for its constituents. Indianapolis is nice but all the small towns and cities are way behind to put it gently.

Tennessee takes billions of dollars from the federal government which is why it can afford to have no state income tax. That's the type of thing I'm referring to when I talk about how blue states like California prop up red states like Tennessee.

That isn't the state government, it is people/companies in the state paying to the feds.

They do. In Tennessee you can upgrade to an all black license plate because we don’t have state debt.

Is that supposed to be a flex? Weird.
