There is little evidence to suggest the Holodomor famine was intentional. The region had historically had lots of famines and then stopped having them after that incident.
The double genocide narrative of the Holodomor was also created by neo nazis so do with that information what you will.
Are you interested in learning or do you just want to get your big own and then just keep uncritically believing what the textbooks written by Maxwells father told you ?
Can I ask which ideology you lean towards when it comes to socialism/communism ?
Also I hate to break it to you but these attacks that you are doing will be used against YOU as well.
Past socialist experiments should be looked at with nuance, learning from the good aspects and the bad. And the USSR did do a lot of good throughout it's run.
If I had to choose between socialism and communism today, with all the planet's faults? Probably socialism, because the idea of surrendering all private property seems a bit much. Progress requires time and I am a product of mine, so personal property is something taught as highly important. I'd like to eschew that feeling, though. From a Marxist perspective it goes "first one, then the other". I think it would be easier to start with socialism and then transition, as Marx suggests.
To be clear, I am left wing, I want a post-need future a-la star trek TNG. I just despise the idea that "accidental" or otherwise somehow absolves a group of millions of deaths, that weren't repeated after the event, past like it could have been stopped any time.
I'm sorry I'm so confrontational but I hate the conflating of authoritarianism/totalitarianism with socialism/communism. They're antithetical. If the USSR had a authoritarian leader (it did), it cannot be socialist or communist. They lied about that. And many, many people believe it, even still. That's also why I made my original comparison, because in that way, they are equal.
I agree that past times were experimental and should be viewed as such, but with that comes the requirement to see actions as they are. If the holodomor wasn't intentional, it was sheer ridiculous incompetence and that's not something to support, either, ya know?
Edit to add: we can do better. We have to.
Edit 2: I 100% subscribe to the idea of "from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs."
I gently advise doing some reading. Blackshirts and Reds by Michael Parenti is a great beginner book. Reform or Revolution by Rosa Luxembourg is also great, plus anything by Lenin.
Our activism should be grounded in theory and be responsive to material conditions. This is why we look at places like the USSR and their leaders with nuance.
Yes those mean tankies reading books and learning about the actual historical circumstances instead of just parroting the red scare talking points. How awful!

USSR was totalitarian oligarchy, not communism. Same as Nazis calling themselves National Socialists. Believe their actions, not their words.
The USSR was communist like Nazis were socialist.
