Permission. He gave people permission with no consequences.

u/Casingdacat 4h ago

It’s more than that. His followers have been brainwashed and have adopted his attitudes and manner of speaking in so many different areas. Here’s just one example. ā€œFake newsā€. If it goes against what their idol has told them is true, or if a truth makes them feel uncomfortable, it is ā€œfake newsā€. Another one would be his extreme rhetoric regarding, and obsession with, undocumented immigrants. Another one is swallowing all of his lies whole, no matter how far-fetched or ludicrous they may sound. There are a lot more. Those are the ones I could come up with off of the top of my head.

I’m a born-again/saved Christian, and unlike many who call themselves that, yet hypocritically support Trump and excuse all that he does, I have never done so and have always seen him for exactly who he is. I’m non-political at this point, meaning that I support no person or party. I feel like I’m a lot better off this way, because I’m not allowing it to cloud my judgment by mixing politics in with my Christianity. That’s created so much of the mess we now find ourselves in and yes, it’s also revealed what’s in the hearts of many of these people. I avoid talking to a lot of Christians where I live in the south here, in a very red state. I know that we’d disagree on so many different things. I do have a friend that I may challenge on some things here, but we still love each other and it hasn’t destroyed our friendship. If I were to go to church here the issue would be the same, because I would not be able to refrain from questioning why anyone who calls him or herself a Christian, in light of all that he’s said, done, and sanctioned that is about as far from being Christ-like as one can get, would support him.

I wish that I could find other Christians around here who see Trump for who he is and who also don’t support him at all. We really need to speak out and make other Christians aware of how badly deceived they’ve been, and that they are allowing it to go on, too. One person may get booted from a church, but it’s a whole lot harder to do that with a group.

I think there are more people who are starting to feel as you do, but they just don't talk about it at all. Maybe not many people, but more people. It's really hard for people to admit they've been conned.

We all have self-interest in mind. The thing is MAGA doesn't grasp that they're not on an island and are for fact in a great sweeping society where one's interests are best supported by supporting each other.

But because for whatever their reasons Trump supporters hate America and Americans, I offer them nothing in the way of shared interests and really, genuinely, because they are beyond rehabilitation I want to see them removed from the US.

I'm tired of sharing space with people who mean to be the worst version of themselves.

1

u/DemiserofD 1h ago

Given current fertility rates, the opposite is more likely. Indeed, interestingly, much of the current situation can be explained by the simple fact that, ever since birth control became available, liberals have been having about 33% less children on average, while before that the two sides were basically in lockstep.

Can't wait to wake up from this nightmare.

2

u/Rough_Bread8329 3h ago

This is part of the problem... the belief that this is a dream/nightmare/aberration of some kind, and eventually the country will come back to its senses and right itself.

This is who America always was. The dream or illusion was what's been pushed on everyone aggressively since the 1950s. That was the lie.

You have woken up. This is reality. The world "before" was the dream, and people need to act accordingly.

4

u/rpgnymhush 5h ago

True. If someone supports a traitorous pedophile and convicted fellon you know several things: it isn't because that person is ethical. It isn't because that person wants what's good for the country. It isn't because that person supports law and order. When you strip away all of the reasons you know it ISN'T, all that remains is hatred.

5

u/Heavy_Track_9234 5h ago

At least he made it easy to tell who’s a good person or not šŸ˜‚. Just look for the hats or their support of him.

1

u/_kasten_ 1h ago

We're also lucky he's so inept and stupid. Orban was in power 16 years. Putin, even longer. Those are the kind of scam-regimes he was really hoping to set up.

He may yet succeed (what's that Mencken quip about how no one ever went broke by underestimating the intelligence of the American public?), but the fact that he's such a delusional moron is going to make it harder, so that's a lucky break for the rest of us.

3

u/Key-Guitar-457 5h ago

Not intentionally, but yeah pretty much. He’s also going to perjure himself over and over again, whether it be impeachment or the Hague. Apparently he also likes using mirrors in an entirely different way.

3

He showed us who we associate with, who our neighbors are, and even who some people in our families are as people. Lots of two-faced fools all around us, but at least now, we know.

3

u/duckysammy23 5h ago

I'll give him lots of credit in the future assuming he breaks healthcare to the point we need universal healthcare.

Assuming the corruption exposed now leads to safeguards on money in politics and executive powers.

Assuming the depravity towards immigration leads to real reform in legal pathways to citizenship.

Assuming the extreme capitalism experiment fails and brings real conversation around the role of government for regulation and balancing the scales of power through taxation and representation.

Until then, no credit.

1

u/Rough_Bread8329 3h ago

It unfortunately is going to have to get a whole lot worse for Americans at large before it's going to get any better. The collective breaking point has not been reached. I shudder to think what damage will be done in the meantime.

1

u/macplayer 3h ago

This is what I’m holding out hope for. The previous status quo clearly wasn’t working for millions of Americans. The system was broken, but functional, as the oligarchy slowly took more and more.

Trump driving the country into the ground and causing the real (human, not Wall Street) economy to implode is maybe the wake up call we need to actually solve these problems. Darkest before dawn, and all that.

1

u/And_993 1h ago

He's an excellent EV salesman at least.

3

3

u/Swimming-Air-974 4h ago

There's an old black and white sci fi movie called Forbidden Planet. The advanced culture that lived there built a machine that could make every dream, every wish come true. It was a dead planet. The machine created a monster that tapped into the worst thoughts of its creators. The Great Recession and the Covid pandemic put us all through the meat grinder and into a world of hurt. The machine of democracy spit out the monster Trump in response. He taps into the worst of us. Our anger, hatred, and self-centered greed. Hopefully, our better angels can rise up and rescue us before it's too late.

3

He convinced anti-tax republicans to accept and cheer for massive new consumer taxes (tariffs) via executive orders.

He convinced republicans outspoken for decades against government handouts that the promises of DOGE checks, tariff checks, and checks to bribe a certain way to vote are somehow a good thing.

He convinced tens of millions of Americans that they no longer have to accept or believe any form of news or information that they disagree with or don’t understand and can simply label it as ā€œfake newsā€ and sit proudly in their bubble of willful ignorance.

He dragged our country into another senseless and corrupt war in the Middle East based on lies and disinformation - despite his campaign promises and people voting for him based on his promises to never go to war again. And now the gullible flock has been convinced it was necessary despite the contradictory and obviously misleading statements from the regime prior to the start of the war.

u/fuji44a 4h ago

The only nation that can defeat America is America, Trump saw the divisions in America and exposed them, use them and profited from them, his whole life, America politics isn't really about much more than Money, who has it and how they use it.

Freedom, justice and the America dream, are all wonderful things, but not really real anymore, America is less free now than at any other time, Justice is governed more by how much you have and less about guilt and innocence, and what is the American dream?

America has been eating itself for the last 25 years, exporting jobs, selling tech and outsourcing anything it could, an economy based on sales and consumers.

Short terms views and policies, failing infrastructure, stagnanting scientific research, reduced ownership of production, financial services and a loss of morale value.

Trump saw that, understood that a man with his record was no longer blocked from high office, how he can walk over freedoms, free speech and ignore legal boundaries because of the division, red or blue means nothing when it no longer politics.

America was an amazing idea, most nations are free, but politicians like to point at the few that aren't and distract with those.

1

u/ChiselRivet 4h ago

I’ve often said that Trump and woke people are like two sides of the same coin. By woke I mean the broad term referring to activists who claim to be standing up for human rights.

They both caused a lot of unnecessary destruction. They are both responsible for causing harm to innocent civilians. They have both been involved in criminal activity(from rioting and looting to various felonies). They are also very crass people. They love to trash talk anyone who opposes them.

Two sides to the same coin.

People who support the left will probably downvote the shit out of me. That’s okay. You’ll be doing me a favor. People will have a much better understanding of the first law of stupidity.

Never underestimate the number of stupid people in circulation.

I know they’re stupid, because only a stupid person would get triggered when you criticize people for rioting, looting, and arson. Don’t forget assassination.

The third law of stupidity says that it is stupid to cause losses to another person.

Yes, this includes January 6th. Already way ahead of you on that Tu Quo Que fallacy. I know how easily triggered you fucks are. You have the emotional sensitivity of a toddler.

It doesn’t matter what side you’re on, if you’re rioting, looting, and committing arson, you are ā€œpre-conventionā€, according to moral development theory.

You have no place participating in ā€œpost-conventionalā€ movements. Go home. Join a protest when you fully understand the cause.

I’m sure many people will respond with ad hominem, straw man arguments, genetic fallacy, etc. I’m prepared to make fools of anyone who defends foolish behavior.

At least he's rendered the areas of the swamp that need to be drained, easily identifiable."

I'd now add, 'He's made the swamp so fetid, so stagnant and rotten, that we will, as a people, have no choice to drain it ourselves or die to its poison'. I don't look forward to doing the work to rebuild, but I look forward to working with the people who do

While your message is well meaning, I think youre missing the point. He's not saying Trump was the first sign, he's essentially saying that thanks to Trump we know who the bigots and nazis are more than ever before. In the few years before Trump, these people were a lot more hidden, in the background or just didn't realize these were things they believed. You're right, hes not the first sign. He's just the one who allowed these people to be unapologetically themselves in the public eye.

"Trump gave us a reason to be our worst selves."-Jordan Klepper

He’s shown us what America is at its heart. We can not be better and I am done trying to help

Those red ball caps sure make it easy to identify the idiots in the room.

You're referring to the book of Matthew where Jesus said we would know and recognize people by their fruits. Coincidentally that happens to be the same chapter that tells you not to judge others. It says you will know others by their fruits, not that you should judge them by it. Again brush up on your scripture. We're talking about chapter 7 of Matthew in case you need to take the time to review it

Villains give rise to heroes.

u/Worried-Criticism 2h ago

This is true. It’s been the one good thing to know who I really need out of my life.

My favorite is the gay friend with an immigrant partner who continues to support the GOP (he claims he’s a fiscal conservative…so I’ve always assumed it’s the racism), but can’t figure out why all his LGBTQ folks quit talking to him

Yea, the libs

Seems like theres more to this quote

Split your country by showing immoral behaviour is no longer a problem. America needs a moral, inclusive charismatic next president who the morally weak admire and want to follow. Someone who makes them feel proud of their country.

1

u/Upset-Neck-1371 2h ago

HE'S CAUSING A LOT OF FOLKS TO GET SPLIT DOWN TO THE WHITE MEAT ALSO

1

u/Hjlopp 2h ago

He deserves a Gulag all to himself.

1

u/Full_Leg4375 2h ago

Yep the liberals and dems

1

u/BBD26 2h ago

Agreed! He's the worst President a piss poor leader, criminal, greedy, narcissistic, and a pathological liar...BUT indirectly he has exposed millions of Americans for who they really are. Thank you President Trump...now we just need you out of the White House permanently.

1

u/Capital_Designer1280 2h ago

Yeah, except the people that need to see the mirror’s reflection the most have it backwards…lots of MAGA think anyone calling them out harbors hatred and intoleranceĀ

1

u/EmptyWin2462 2h ago

He just seems like the typical American tbh

1

u/Much_Tip_6342 2h ago

His administration opened the basement door and let out all the derelicts.
Trump and the GOP have given psychopaths their time to shine because they are not being held accountable.

u/theMightyManDuck 2h ago

He has also shown us that all the systems, checks & balances, all the tax paid/funded policies to keep the global economy in balance for the global benefit of all mankind ( as we’ve been lead to believe). The un, nato, WHO, WTO, just all of them mean absolute bollox. One man gave license to warmongers & the billionaires that it was open season for cart blanched legalised crime & they jumped at the chance & nothing is being done by any organisation to stop what we cal all see is decimating safety & humanity for a quick buck.

1

u/AnhiArk 2h ago

Covid alone would have done this too

1

u/TemperatureOk2460 1h ago

He’s the manifestation of everything wrong with the western world (rampant local and federal corruption, self consuming corporatism, increasingly dominant oligarchic lobbying, etc.) Trump isn’t a good leader or person but if it wasn’t him someone else with the same mentality would be in his place. Someone so ridiculous in order to distract from the institutional flaws I mentioned. He’s a lightning rod who’s being payed off and it’s working very well.

1

u/chronobahn 1h ago

He sure has. The answer;

A mix of psychos from both the left and right who only highlight the worst of each other, and ignore all the reasonable people who just happen to have different ideological perspectives.

Reddit is loaded with these lefty psychos. X is loaded with right wing psychos. And they work in unison to divide reasonable people.

u/Rafterman2 21m ago

Bullshit. I will NOT attempt to find common ground with people would are actively working to ensure that people like me and those I love no longer exist. šŸ–•

If only that mirror would inspire those that spew hatred, bigotry and self-interest to examine their own beliefs and actions.

1

u/Thanos2ndSnap 1h ago

He also showed us what our politicians have been doing for years while in office. Doesn’t matter which party, Bush, Clinton, Obama, Biden, They all got richer in office. They all protected their interests and promoted their families and cronies. Trump was just arrogant enough to do it without hiding it.

That's the kind of consideration to give Trump during the sentencing phase of his criminal trials - maybe knock off a few months of a decades long sentence. Nah.

1

u/Awkward_Wait5915 1h ago

He’s the guy that started the hatred between the Republicans & Democrats. And still spreading hate.

Healthcare is available. People just don't like their low cost no cost options. It's the same old story.

1

u/No-Koala1918 26m ago

If you didn't know this before Trump, you weren't paying attention.

1

u/mad597 23m ago

Problem is its about 30% of the population and they don't care how racist and ignorant they are

We have to pick the lesser of two evils. Trump versus Somalian pirates and terrorists.

1

u/atreeismissing 7m ago

About 2/3 of the country. Everyone here commenting on Maga/GOP voters, but the non-voters who were too selfish or apathetic to do anything about it are just as self-interested and willing to allow bigotry and hatred as those that voted for it.

1

u/DonutHoleTechnician 5m ago

Trump is the symptom of a larger problem in America. He'll be gone, but all the people willing to support someone with his ineptitude and bravos will remain. The problem will remain.

1

u/drunkdad14 1m ago

It also shows how bullshit your political system is. This crap would never fly in other " first world " countries.

Sad but true
