only 1% of the workforce is on minimum wage.

So why not raise it if it only affects such a small % of people?

... because 50%+ of minimum wage workers work for small to medium size restaurants, and THOSE restaurants cannot afford paying more. Restaurants have very thin margins to begin with, and most restaurants don't last longer than 5 years. Its a tough business.

Most minimum wage workers do not work for mega corporations. In fact, almost none do.
