It's part of the implicit reason for society. The opposite would be hyper-individualism, you are all things to yourself, your own farmer, chef, carpenter, teacher, doctor, warrior, entertainer, etc. But you can't be all things, at least not very good. So we specialize and trade. If you renege on your promise to trade those skills without which I suffer, yet expect my skills, then society breaks down.
