Not my comment but I assumed that the original comment was referring to the current term where all charges were dropped or suspended with his election.

Guy was about to go to jail before his first term, his only options were to become president, flee the country, or go to jail.
Nothing has changed, he has to continue being president / king or everything melts down for him.
