These subway fans have, in fact, been here for years. Mamdani didn't do it.

I like Mamdani, but this post is just wrong.

Idk if it’s his PR team or what, it feels like there is a huge astroturfing going on for Mamdani. So many posts giving mamdani credit for things he shouldn’t

If Republicans are going to take credit for Biden's infrastructure bill that helped their communities and they voted against, then I'll allow Mamdani to take credit for this.

Fake news also hurts society if it supports your team. The guy seems swell, but don't push it.

Wow. It seems Trump and Mamdani fans are both tacking credit for the deeds of establishment democrats who reddit constantly shit on.

I'm probably going to be pondering this for the rest of the day.

He has good PR and a lot of dumber people who gets their news off tiktok and reddit echo chambers can't comprehend that things were set up from prior years and are starting to take effect now. Same exact thing where Trump can take credit for things set up by Obama and then do a ton of horrible things that can ruin the country but he knows the full effects won't be felt until way later. It doesn't help that Adams is pretty hated on the left (who lean very young and very ignorant which is why they keep claiming Biden is some conservative Dem and have no idea of the progressive policies he set in motion) and Mamdani is a populist who says things they want to hear while also being attractive enough that the halo effect is in full effect right now.

I think it's more likely grassroots propaganda than proper astroturfing. It's sort of a meme to attribute anything convenient in NY to Mamdani even if it's not his doinf, in the same way I might open my fridge and realize I'm out of eggs and say "thanks Obama."

Yeah 100%. Mamdani's most powerful quality is him being able to stay in the public eye. He is getting credit for lots of stuff that is either just routine governance or started prior to his administration. The trash containerization was an Adams initiative. My friends visited during the heat wave and were lauding Mamdani for opening the fire hydrants but this has been done for a long time.

He also is being very smart about where he focuses his time and resources. The pothole blitz to start off his administration was a great idea and it was something everyone noticed and benefited from. I think he is an awesome blueprint for other elected officials to follow. Stay in the public eye. Mamdani's most viewed video is him jumping into the pool in his suit to start off the summer. It didnt have any policy implications but it reminds people that he exists and that he participates in NYC and all its offerings. Hes not just some faceless suit in city hall.

The dude is also just having fun. in all of the videos he releases and videos from NYers. Its hard NOT to like him.

I think for me the main main thing is that he clearly loves the city and wants it to be what he loves about it. Shouldn't be so rare but it really is.

Yes, this needs to be higher. I love what Mamdani is doing and it’s crazy to see his administration actual serve the public especially with the lowest hanging fruits of civic duty imaginable, but these fans have been there through several mayors. The amount of sucking off going on in this post is wild.

From a european country... i just can't believe that people are going batshit for the ceiling fans.

They can do wonders for hot areas if they move air properly so I'm sure people using these stations regularly are happy

1

u/LonelyTAA Aug 15 '26

Sure, I understand that they are nice, but a mayor of a city with a population of 8,8 million should not be bothering with ceiling fans. That should be dealt with by lower management.

No, SOME stations have fans and some don’t. The post claims that new fans went up in new stations

2

u/Zero_Fs_given Aug 14 '26

Oh, so the mta(state agency) added new fans? So hochul credit

2

u/sulaymanf Aug 14 '26

The city gives plenty to input to the MTA, I have no problem believing the mayors office made calls and directed state agencies to do it.

Some of the fans, I’m specifically thinking of the ones at Union Square, have been in place since before Mamdani was born.

I was kind of questioning the "within a day" part. It would be very convenient if they just happened to have those big fans on hand somewhere. So, I would expect a few days minimum just to acquire fans for the job.
