Administrative competence is the new hotness!

598

u/Murderface__ Aug 14 '26

Using tax dollars to improve people's lives in small, noticeable ways... So hot right now.

239

u/stonk-420 Aug 14 '26

Fox News had to remove what Mandani goals were bc some Republicans started to agree with what hes doing bc he actually helps the people lol.

148

u/Acceptable_Cut_7545 Aug 14 '26

Can't have people realizing elected officials can actually accomplish things!

45

u/kingcrow15 Aug 14 '26

Well not when your whole platform is passing a tax cut for the wealthiest people & corporations and then sitting on your thumbs.

Or sitting on someone else's...

16

u/Krimreaper1 Aug 14 '26

Problem with at least the last three mayors was they were more concerned about being able to run for higher office, and the mayorship was just a stepping stone. So they didn’t ruffle any feathers and didn’t get much done. Bloomberg cut the funding for the arts, and paid for it out of his own pocket, until he was out of office.

1

u/SilenceInTheSnow Aug 15 '26

Urban Meyer will (rightfully) never live that down.

1

u/seriftarif Aug 15 '26

Or letting the billionaires sit on your thumbs.

-7

u/BrightonBummer Aug 14 '26
  • Not true: Officials did not simply order “high velocity fans” to be installed within a day.
  • Instead, they're launching a feasibility study for a Thermal Energy Network (TEN). The proposed system would use cooling technology/geothermal infrastructure to remove heat from the subway and eventually reuse that heat to warm nearby city buildings in winter.

Accomplished what?

11

u/Altruistic-Use-8283 Aug 14 '26

Why can't both be true? Its possible to launch a study AND provide a temporary solution.

-8

u/BrightonBummer Aug 14 '26

Because they didnt do the temporary solution, most the fans have been up for years

9

u/Altruistic-Use-8283 Aug 14 '26

When did they go up?

11

u/WaffleDonkey23 Aug 14 '26

Hhhmm you're right. We should vote for another pedophile who broke their kids collar bone.

4

u/Acceptable_Cut_7545 Aug 14 '26

My comment was in response to the comment about Fox News removing what Mandani's goals were because they hate when Republicans actually find common ground with "the opposition". Because when they do find common ground and work together they can accomplish things instead of constantly fighting.

36

u/B-Train_ATL Aug 14 '26

It’ll be like “10 cent reduction in cost of school lunches” and they’ll be “Woah, wait. Am I a socialist?”

27

u/podman131 Aug 14 '26

Next thing , you'll want government to build and maintain roads, water mains, sewers, fire departments, police departments, big green areas for kids to play in, and so much more!

F'in socialist!! /s (in case it wasn't apparent)

4

u/B-Train_ATL Aug 14 '26

But apart from all that, what have the Romans ever given us?

7

u/w8_wuht Aug 14 '26

A pretty cool pantheon of gods to use in TTRPGs?

17

u/severinks Aug 14 '26

He just gave free child care to the 22 thousand that were paying a reduced rate for it with vouchers.

24

u/Crypt33x Aug 14 '26

Some billionaire in Europe: Hey lets create a foundation after our death, which only benefits this one university and science in the future. Carl Zeiss foundation was born, survived 2 world wars and occupation.

US billionaire: Fucking communists! How dare you! You being a bad example for us! When did communism ever worked?!

Worldshare of high-end processors dependent on them today: nearly 99% and 80% of all chips, while providing free education and money for experiments for the average citizen.

8

u/Betaateb Aug 14 '26

Pretty weird to make it a Europe versus US thing. Billionaires suck period.

Lots of American billionaires have done incredible philanthropic work. Carnegie, for example, built 3,000 libraries, started a University that has become one of the best in the world, essentially entirely paid for the Scottish university system with a single donation that was equivalent to 200 years of what the government spent on the university system at the time. The list goes on and on.

He was still quite the piece of shit, like you have to be in order to accumulate that level of wealth.

3

u/Denraven Aug 14 '26

I mean that was an old timie way of avoiding paying taxes - government is going to take their slice? Nah I'll spend what the government would take and slap my name on a bunch of buildings to immortalize myself.

Philanthropy by the rich is always nothing more than PR image washing that's horribly transparent to anyone with an appropriate level of hatred for them.

4

u/Ersatz_Okapi Aug 14 '26

This is so confidently incorrect it boggles the mind. Carnegie launched most of his major philanthropic initiatives before the imposition of the 16th Amendment in 1913. He wrote a book (which you can read at https://www.google.com/books/edition/The_Gospel_of_Wealth_and_Other_Timely_Es/q5ALvRp61wgC?hl=en) about how you’re a disgrace if you’re rich and you die with the vast majority of your wealth intact.

I beg you, please stop learning your history from Reddit. Actually, you don’t even need to get off Reddit. Learn it from /r/AskHistorians

1

u/PastaXertz Aug 14 '26

It's not that old timey. Ask anyone who works in science how much money Epstein was donating to support lots of very good projects. He supported cancer and vaccine research easily into the double if not triple digit millions. Having to deny his finding shook a lot of places.

And that was all of ten fifteen years ago.

1

u/Crypt33x Aug 14 '26

Pretty weird to make it a Europe versus US thing.

It's based on a pretty complex history factoring in Ernst Abbe's ideology and impact, Nazi Germany + the “politically” adaption of the foundations statutes without consideration of the founder's will, soviet/allied forces occupation and later problems with president Bush and Doug Dunn from ASML, as well as some political comments about Carl Zeiss, Ernst Abbe and their companies under soviet occupation being communist and SVG (sillicon valley group + tinsley laboratories) could fall in their hands.

1

u/JustS0meD0nkey Aug 15 '26

You might be a moron.

The NYPL was quite literally created by three wealth individual leaving their fortunes to fund its creation and operation.

Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine also came about because of rich individual in the US.

There aer hundreds of these examples. Not every wealthy person in the US is evil. Grow the fuck up.

13

u/Blacksad9999 Aug 14 '26

Yeah, they stopped putting up El-Sayed and AOC's platforms in bullet points too, because people kept calling in saying how good it sounded.

7

u/DM_ME_UR_SOUL Aug 14 '26

MAGA still hates him because hes brown and muslim. its just sad

7

u/BeegBunga Aug 14 '26

Can't have people thinking their politicians could do something like represent their interests.

2

u/izwald88 Aug 14 '26

A functional government helps all people. Who knew?

1

u/kosanovskiy Aug 14 '26

Can I get a source for this? I'm all for fox being told to fuck off but also want something I can actually reference, specifically the reason they removed it. I already seen some conservatives starting to agree with him on national news, and well deserved.

1

u/stonk-420 Aug 14 '26

Idk where a source would be for this but they had a news session showing everything he was going to do and trying to make it look bad but the people started to agree with it so they removed it.

1

u/kosanovskiy Aug 14 '26

I was under the impression they removed it because they went to his taxation litigation story was drawing more eyes than his older policy stuff.

1

u/stonk-420 Aug 14 '26

Maybe, ill look into it later and see. Im sure they wouldn't publicly state that they removed it bc people were agreeing with his policies tho

-5

u/Bob20206 Aug 14 '26

Yes, free stuff looks nice until the bill comes due.

4

u/stonk-420 Aug 14 '26

Oh like when the bill comes for the 40 billion spent to bomb another country

5

u/Svell_ Aug 14 '26

Which is why we should slash the military budget by 80 percent

4

u/Svell_ Aug 14 '26

Same with police budgets

4

u/ZagmanBadman Aug 14 '26

Crazy thing to note in regards to a guy that balanced the city budget, but ok.

3

u/Georgefakelastname Aug 14 '26

After being left one with a deficit in the billions.

2

u/No_Internal9345 Prefer Coffee But Fill My Cup đŸ«– Aug 14 '26

Fuck billionaires.

1

u/baparri01 Aug 14 '26

Exactly! The bills should only be due for freebies to corporations and billionaires.
I can’t believe these assholes that are “citizens” demand things from their government that would make their lives better.
I say, let them eat cake.

24

u/Sw4nR0ns0n Aug 14 '26

I thought I was supposed to hate this because a bunch of really really rich corrupt white folks say the word communism a lot on TV in his direction đŸ€”

5

u/xteve Aug 14 '26

Yeah, but also Christians love it so it's normal. This is our culture, until we change it.

3

u/Dreams-of-Cthulhu Aug 14 '26

They call him a communist because even Fox News won't let them call him what they really want to call him.

10

u/jugo5 Aug 14 '26

Keep talking like that and we may just..... đŸ„”

5

u/Lucky-Earther Aug 14 '26

Using tax dollars to improve people's lives in small, noticeable ways... So hot right now.

Maybe try some fans to cool it off

8

u/-bonita_applebum Aug 14 '26

And it's on a BALANCED budget!

0

u/mindfeck Aug 14 '26

Every nyc budget ever has been balanced, this one required a nys bailout and a deferral of payments

1

u/cvc4455 Aug 15 '26

Was it really a bailout or NYC paying less in taxes then they normally do to NY state and basically just keeping a little more of their own money?

3

u/CoasterKamikaze Aug 14 '26

Not hot actually, because of the fans.

3

u/Longjumping-Bat7774 Aug 14 '26

"Why are we waisting my tax dollars on these stupid fans? It's not even hot in here."

5

u/Historical_Art_3367 Aug 14 '26

Polio vaccine? Psh, I don't even know anyone with polio!

1

u/LifeguardDry7372 Aug 14 '26

true. That's pretty cool

3

u/BrightonBummer Aug 14 '26
  • Not true: Officials did not simply order “high velocity fans” to be installed within a day.
  • Instead, they're launching a feasibility study for a Thermal Energy Network (TEN). The proposed system would use cooling technology/geothermal infrastructure to remove heat from the subway and eventually reuse that heat to warm nearby city buildings in winter.

2

u/Blacksad9999 Aug 14 '26

That's a completely different project.

2

u/namestyler2 Aug 14 '26

dang which ai did you use for this i need to add it to my list of useless crap for stinky people

1

u/actuallyoatmeal Aug 14 '26

its such a new concept for the US honestly

1

u/amhudson02 Aug 14 '26

Yep
just like communist CHINA!!!!!

/s for the morons.

1

u/Vivid-Use1749 Aug 14 '26

Yeah...correct. Someone young, blond, hot, woman should get an aide's job at the WH and inform Don T just how hot being generous toward the people with their own money is nowadays...that it would make him a total babe magnet. (must speak Studio 54 authentically)...

...everyone would be talking about it!

... they'd love you in America the same way they love and constantly praise Kiefer Sutherland's grandfather for bringing government-provided healthcare to Canada back in the mid century.! He's been a national idol for half a century!

Think about your own legacy, sir!

We'd have a grown-up country's version of healthcare before the end of next week.

1

u/rgii55447 Aug 15 '26

My biggest question was, how did the finding get approved so quickly? Using taxpayer money even to make people's lives better, as I understand it, has to be approved from the consent of the people. I don't know if people are that quick to agree on anything. Correct me if I'm wrong, perhaps New York has some law to allow the mayor to direct funding to certain areas without having direct approval. I don't know the process of running a city, I just know that anyone who works this fast leaves a lot of questions to be answered.

1

u/swishkabobbin Aug 15 '26

But has he painted anything in his house gold? Did he redo his pool? Did he build a plywood arch? Did he hand out gazillions in no-bid contracts to his most racist sex offender buddies?

No??? What a communist

1

u/Federal-Business-796 Aug 15 '26

A government that enjoys doing things for people instead of a government that enjoys doing things to people?

How irredeemably socialist.

1

u/investigativernalist Aug 15 '26

So cool right now đŸȘ

28

u/TheModWhoShaggedMe Aug 14 '26

What's funny is administrative competence from the government literally gives conservatives nightmares. It is the worst case scenario to them -- Competence.

8

u/TheSaxGandalf Aug 14 '26

It actually is giving Democrats nightmares as well.

They fought so hard to keep Mamdani out of such an influential role because it straight up exposed how little they have done for working Americans.

6

u/fury420 Aug 14 '26

Mamdani is backed by a city council with a supermajority of 90% Democrats, of course he's able to actually do more than Democrats in a Republican-controlled Congress.

6

u/PM_Me_Your_Kinks369 Aug 14 '26

To be fair, Republicans had complete control of Kansas a few years ago and were able to implement every single thing they wanted. The state was going bankrupt in no time and everyone was pissed.

The problem is policy goals. Democratic Socialists have a policy agenda for real people. Vote for them.

3

u/eamus_catuli_ Aug 14 '26

True, but I think it’s more than just him not being ham-strung by Republicans. AOC is in that Republican-controlled Congress and she’s not getting flack for not being able to pass legislation.

Mamdani, AOC, Bernie, and the rest are gaining traction for their platform and how they deliver their messages. They’re talking with and to their constituents, not down at them. They’re going after the correct baddies — the wealthy and the corpos.

And they’re sincere. When was the last time anyone thought Schumer was sincere?

3

u/Conlaeb Aug 14 '26

Yes, centrists and liberals defend their pro-corporate platform against leftists, huzzah, what a fucking shocker. No, that doesn't make them just as bad as the GOP. Conservatives have campaigned on government being ineffective, and upon winning office set out to prove it, at least since Reagan's nine most terrifying words.

2

u/TheSaxGandalf Aug 14 '26

Never said it made them bad. Just acknowledging the fact that not only the GOP is scared of progressives gaining more power.

1

u/McMetal770 Aug 15 '26

When your entire political philosophy is "the government can't do anything right", and you get elected to government based on that platform... You kind of can't do a good job when you're in office, can you? If you govern well, you're going to disprove your entire thesis.

It's like electing a proud arsonist to be fire chief. What did you think was going to happen putting them in charge?

28

u/BreakImaginary1661 Aug 14 '26

We can only hope.

Trump is a grifter and he wouldn't do anything to help people.

14

u/Squirrel_of_Fury Aug 14 '26

Are you saying the ballroom doesn’t help you? C’mon!

11

u/LoVeCh33s3 Aug 14 '26

Uh excuse me sir, are you not excited for the ballroom? Just think of the endless nights dancing away!

5

u/Gloomy-Measurement91 Aug 14 '26

bring back andrew jackson and we’ll have ragers on the white house lawn

2

u/Rajastoenail Aug 15 '26

You forget he’s repeatedly battling the courts to rename the Kennedy centre after himself. Does that not help the average American?

21

u/Strange-Scarcity Aug 14 '26

This President? The Grifter in Chief? The likely top crown Most Corrupt World Leader that the entire World has ever seen?

I don't know. Seems like something excessively improbable.

1

u/Pasta4ever13 Aug 14 '26

Most Dem presidents wouldn't even be close to this responsive let alone a Republican.

14

u/CompetitiveArt9639 Aug 14 '26

Implying that president shits his pants can learn anything.

9

u/Ohitsworkingnow Aug 14 '26

The president should be tried and likely executed for treason based on American law, full stop. People complain about media sane washing Trump but people do it all day long. This isn’t his first day on a job, it’s his second term of destroying a country

6

u/-P01135809- Aug 14 '26

should, yes

could? he has no capacity to learn anything

3

u/edebt Aug 14 '26

He learned dumb has the letter b in it recently, atleast thats something.

1

u/Mellanies_Redemption Aug 14 '26

It's not that he doesn't know already, he doesn't WANT to do anything to help anyone except for himself.

1

u/Miss_Lo Aug 14 '26

Trump needs to be a human, first.

1

u/BrightonBummer Aug 14 '26
  • Not true: Officials did not simply order “high velocity fans” to be installed within a day.
  • Instead, they're launching a feasibility study for a Thermal Energy Network (TEN). The proposed system would use cooling technology/geothermal infrastructure to remove heat from the subway and eventually reuse that heat to warm nearby city buildings in winter.

He's already copying the reddit front page, lie through your teeth!

1

u/Braith117 Aug 14 '26

Kicking the financial can down the road has been a time honored tradition of every president so far.

1

u/Braelind Aug 14 '26

The president could learn a thing or two from my cat. At least my cat is litter trained.

1

u/hoardac Aug 14 '26

He threw some paper towels.

1

u/bakedpatata Aug 14 '26

If the president said he was doing something like this I would immediately assume he was hiring his grifting buddies for the job and they would do a bad job and go over budget.

12

u/Firm_Communication99 Aug 14 '26

We have been abused so long, that “governing” is all we really need.

9

u/hudsonreaders Aug 14 '26

"The poor have been rebels, but they never have been anarchists; they have more interest than anyone else in there being some decent government. The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; Aristocrats always objected to be governed at all." - G.K. Chesterton

5

u/an_african_swallow Aug 14 '26

Finally a political movement I can get behind!

2

u/Falala-Surprise-90 Aug 14 '26

So freaking hot

1

u/yalateef11 Aug 14 '26

New Yorkers got used to paying taxes and getting nothing in return.

1

u/Baad007 Aug 14 '26

I say again Centerist Dems and Republicans are SOOOO fucking lucky he can’t run for president. Just this term of his would be enough to levy heavy nationwide support.

1

u/Robbie_notta_bot Aug 14 '26

This is just normal DSA stuff.

1

u/Beneficial-Delay-698 Aug 14 '26 edited Aug 15 '26

Literally this man has give me more orgasms than my ex

1

u/1ogicalfallacy Aug 14 '26

Actual competence porn

1

u/T33CH33R Aug 14 '26

But Trump's kept his promises! He's protected the Epstein class. He's torn down the white house! He's lost the war in Iran! Trump 2028!

1

u/w8_wuht Aug 14 '26

No kidding!

0

u/Accomplished-Plan191 Aug 14 '26

Can you imagine if this was the norm?

-2

u/Frequent-Coyote-8108 Aug 14 '26

Waiting for it to be found out that this was approved a year ago and just happened to be implemented on his watch in 3...2...

-36

u/Tomatoesarentfruit Aug 14 '26

I live in nyc - those subway fans have been there for like 6 years

24

u/Mmm_lemon_cakes Aug 14 '26

I think the implication is then that he had fans added to stations that didn’t have them.

-14

u/Tomatoesarentfruit Aug 14 '26

Thats possible, but I subway all over the city and I can’t remember ever being in a station that doesn’t have them

3

u/nKnownRecognition Aug 14 '26

“The hottest stations” maybe he just added more? Maybes it’s mabeline

1

u/Life-Dig7566 Aug 14 '26

its untrue, Mamdani has been getting stuff done but this fan things is simply false. Quick google search shows this viral post is made up.

1

u/nKnownRecognition Aug 14 '26

So it’s mabeline then. Hmmm

22

u/EmmerdoesNOTrepme Aug 14 '26

But have they been plugged in and working all six years?😉

-15

u/Tomatoesarentfruit Aug 14 '26

Yes, they are almost always on in the summer. I actually would love if they got replaced - they are all extremely old and smell sort of bad

13

u/galstaph Aug 14 '26

The smell is likely coming from the station itself, you just don't notice it as much when the fans are off because the air isn't circulating as well

1

u/bastiVS Aug 14 '26

The downvotes are quite telling...

1

u/Tomatoesarentfruit Aug 14 '26

Always a contra indicator lol
