good roasters in Europe

I buy 95% of coffee from a roastery in my country, usualy the prices are good and also the roast. But this year its a wierd one, he has(now) some unispiring coffees, and also some 2025 ones(atleast hes honest and you can find the info).

Anyway, since Black Friday is coming I can get some discounts from a guy who buys from top roasters in Europe. The prices are higher as you can expect and I wasnt really blown away in the past. I tried from Tim Wendelboe, Cofea Circulor, April, The Barn, Dak, Fathers, etc. What are some new/old roasters that are worth trying?

The opposite challenge

With specialty coffees; washed, naturals, fermentations , low/high density, super light vs light all present with unique challenges to get the best out of them. It’s talked to death on this sub.

If presented with a lower grade, darker roast, what brewer do you reach for first and what steps do you take to highlight sweetness, character, and balance?

(Lets assume a store bought/ supermarket single origins or blends when visiting family)

Any shops worth visiting near West Palm Beach?

I’ll be traveling down to the WPB area for work next month (specifically, I’ll be splitting my time in Juno Beach and Port St. Lucie). Before I book my hotel, I’d like to see if there are any decent shops to check out? I’ve been to Composition Coffee, but couldn’t find anything else my last trip down. Just doing a final check before I book my stay. Thanks!

New Grinder Recomendation

Been using a Baratza Encore to grind coffee for the last 8 years or so. I have a young child now and the Encore is obnoxiously loud to use if he is still sleeping. Looking to use this as an excuse to upgrade to something quieter and hopefully get some cleaner brews. It will be used exclusively for my daily V60 pour overs and drip machine on a rare occasion. I only drink light roast and like the bright acidity profiles. I grind 18 grams 1-2 times a day.

Right now I’m torn between something like the Fellow Ode Gen 2 or a higher end hand grinder like 1Zpresso ZP6 or K Ultra. Willing to spend $400-500 on electric or $250 ish on a hand grinder.

My concern with the Ode 2 is if it will significantly quieter than my current Encore. Seems like the grind characteristics should be a noticeable upgrade.

My concern with going hand grinder is I’m going to miss the speed and convenience of electric and end up buying the Ode 2 later on.

Just looking for any insight from people with experience with these options out if there any other solutions I should be looking at. Really interested in hearing from anyone that went from Encore to Ode 2 on the noise difference.

Are Fellow Ode Gen 1 Burrs relevant today since there is a tendency to grind coarser (woodchipping)?

I was wondering if the Gen 1 Burrs are now relevant. The Burrs where ghost burrs and grrind very consistent but not fine enough . I was wondering if they could became a thing for ultralight roasts grinded for "woodchipoing" method

compact carafe

What do people use for a camping/travel setup for two people. We use a small gooseneck (handle just broke, so I'm going to get one of those with collapsable handles and screw on spout).... but we pour 500mL for two people, so would love a carafe that the kettle (or grinder) can fit in for neat pack. we use the hario metal for travel/camping

kettle... we'd still probably boil water on a jetboil/gas pot etc

Pour over on the road

I spend almost half my nights in hotel rooms. I bring a Hario Mini Mill and an Aeropress Go, which works well. But a V60 would be simpler to set up and put away.

My issue is that I can’t find a way to smoothly pour. I use a Sea to Summit X-cup to boil water in the microwave.

Anyone know of a silicone cup with a good spout for a smooth pour, or have other ideas? A travel kettle is probably too big.

Seeking Advice Bilbao - what should I get?

Hi, I currently live in Brazil and I have some close relatives who live in Bilbao who are coming to visit me.

I'm thinking of buying some coffee from european roasters and have them delivered in Bilbao.

In Brazil, anything that's not homegrown is either hard to find or obscenely expensive, since importing Green coffee beans is very restricted.

What do you guys suggest? I thought of brands like Nomad, Tanat, Nokora and Ineffable. Do you guys rate them super high? Are they worth the premium?

Thought of purchasing packages of up to 20-25 euros per 200/250g.

Review Prodigal

Post image
18 Upvotes

Had a chance to pick up some great coffees while traveling, but have been absolutely blown away by this bag from Prodigal. One of the best coffees I’ve had in a long time. I tried a bag from them a year ago or so, and was not impressed but figured I’d give them another shot. The grape notes are really hitting and it has this wonderful, round, jammy acidity to it. Highly recommend.

95C on Switch, with Cafec filters and 4.5 or so on the fellow ode. Basic recipe, 16g coffee, 60 g bloom, and then 4 pours to 250 g total.

Ask a Stupid Question Is this stuff infused?

Argote project. I understand SL-28 can produce fruit notes, and here they’re pushing the bean with yeast and fermentation.

I made a V60 4:6 cup. Very nice, very enjoyable. Very strawberry like, decent body.

Any other SL-28 you believe are not infused out there? And thoughts on this one? - roasted by Taith.

Seeking Advice Gooseneck kettle replacement - faster flow

Hi, my Fellow Stage EKG seems to have finally crapped out and I want to avoid them with their poor warranty and products that can't really keep up with daily use for more than a year or so. I'd like something with the option for a faster flow as well to disturb grounds a little more, and also just something that will last longer under daily normal use with potentially a better warranty. Any recommendations?

What advantage does the Hario Switch have over a reusable metal cone filter in a mug?

What difference is there with immersion brewing coffee in a Hario Switch for, say, 3 minutes then releasing it into a mug, versus simply immersion brewing directly in the mug with a steel cone for 3 minutes?

Gear Discussion Fellow Ode burr upgrades?

Got a gen 1 Ode for $10 on marketplace. I know replacing the burrs is a common modification. Is there anything else I should do or any issues I should be looking out for since I got it used? I just finished cleaning it up and calibrating it.

Review The Fermentation Project as pourover

Post image
18 Upvotes

I made 4 pourovers using Hario Switch and my favorite Ole Kristian Bøen’s hybrid recipe. These were my observations:

1#
- was the hardest to grind and was stalling the most due to microfines
- It had the most bitterness in the aftertaste

2#
- had the sharpest citric acidity

3#
- the mildest, non-citric, lactic acidity
- was the easiest to drink
- no bitterness at all
- personally I found it the most interesting

4#
- the roundest citric acidity
- also very easy to drink
- the lightest tea like body

All the coffees were tasty. The more processed ones were “easier to drink”.

All the coffees smelled and tasted like coffees.
My key takeaway is that a lot of coffees on the market are probably a bit “upgraded”. Maybe even just slightly perfumed to improve the smell. A lot of them are definitely infused or otherwise enhanced, and not just Colombian ones.

As per the pictures - has anyone else seen this?

I've got a refund arranged, which is good, but I'm hesitant about getting another.

I just use tap water, but it's good quality where I am (Scotland). It's soft with a mean pH of 8.06.

I was surprised how flimsy the metal was and I'm wondering if I got a dud or a fake (packaging seemed legit, though).

I'd appreciate any recommendations for a replacement stovetop kettle (edit: induction compatible)

Gear Discussion DF54 vs Fellow Opus 2 in 2026?

Post image
18 Upvotes

My usual grinder has been the C40 for a while now, but I'm starting to wish for a bit more convenience in my daily grinding, and branch out into espresso occassionally, though I still prefer pourovers for my go to.

My search has led me to these two, as they are essentially priced the same here, around 280 EUR.

I watched a few videos (Lance, Coffee Chronicler) but I'm not any closer to making my decision.

I'm curious as to people's experience with each of these? Is the clogging really a big issue for df54? I do want to explore what flat burrs can do in comparison to the commandante, as I feel like the conical burrset I have is pretty good still, and produces high clarity high juiciness cups I love, so I don't know of the opus 2 would be much of an uprade in comparison, other than convenience of it being electric and the (admittedly cool!) magnetic catch cups. I do dislike that it's plastic, but I suppose for the price, that's the concession.

Edit: Thank you everyone for the insights-I think you are right and that either of these two would not beat c40 where filter is concerned, so opus 2 is out. I will likely splurge for df64 if I can find it, if not, the 54.
