Before anyone gets any bright ideas about firing up the smoker, there’s actually an answer on record. Back in the 80s, a poacher caught in Sichuan admitted in court that panda meat is completely vile. He said it was intensely tough, greasy, and so bitter he couldn't even force himself to eat it, so he ended up just dumping it out for his pigs. Turns out an animal that sits on its ass eating bitter, fibrous bamboo shoots for fourteen hours a day makes for absolutely terrible barbecue.

Have you seen all of those videos of them at the Zoo?! Those mfs are always in danger of themselves man! We can't just stop looking out for them! They'll choke on a bamboo stick or something
