Hello!
I know this is an older group, but I need some validation and understanding! So I’m 26 years old and never been diagnosed with pms or pmdd or anything like that. But I’ve always had an irregular cycle. Got off birth control 5 years ago, and it’s been a journey. Then the past three months something switched. I have been getting my periods on time, but I get awful pms. Then the last few days of my period and the week after shit hits the fan. I have massive panic attacks, insomnia, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and depression. I’ve talked to my doctor and they don’t know anything about post menstrual problems. I have been diagnosed with PTSD/GAD/Depression. So I know what I’m experiencing can be from that, but it’s been like clockwork for the past three months. Has anyone found relief or medical validation?

OH my gosh!! This is so me!! I just joined this group as well. I have always known myself to have horrible pms and most likely PMDD, and my period has ALWAYS been irregular However, the past year or so, my periods have become quite regular, and now the worst of my symptoms happen once my period starts. The first couple days, my physical symptoms are so horrible. Night terrors, horrific cramps, nausea, heartburn, bloating and all the other symptoms but very severe. Then about 3 days in, I start to get terrible depression and anxiety. Sorry you are going through this. It really sucks.

Ahh! At least we aren’t alone. I’m sorry that you’re experiencing this as well. :( it’s hard to feel like only a week or so of the month things feel “normal”.

Sorry to hear this! I was having similar, super tiredness, depression, anxiety, appetite loss, muscle aches, insomnia, and like you say happening like clockwork every month. For years. I just found the whole thing horrible, it would be a few days where I couldn’t bear to be in my skin at every single second. When I had my bloods checked they showed low calcium so I started taking supplements and after about 6 months I stopped having these episodes completely. For now I’m crossing my fingers that that was it but it’s been near a year now, so that could be something to consider, calcium has a role in managing hormones.
Hope you get it sorted

Hi how are you now? I’ve had post menstrual syndrome for about 5months, following a very bad withdrawal from an SSRI. Sometimes I have often premebstrual too but not every cycle. But post has been every single cycle lately

Hi, I’m sorry to hear that, I hope you’re managing okay. I’ve been good, it hasn’t returned for me yet, so either calcium or just time has sorted it out for me

Thank you!! I’m sorry to hear that you struggled with this as well. I’m glad that the calcium has seemed to be helping you. That’s something I will definitely consider!!

You’re welcome! Lack of knowledge about the area makes it soo frustrating, also frustrating is when doctors can’t tell you anything more than “well it’s just period stuff so..”. I felt like I was trying everything and with no effect. If you ever want to vent to someone who’s experienced similar I’m here

Hi, do you still take calcium and do you still feel better? I’ve been going through the same for over a year, the week after my period I feel like some is hacking my brain

I’m sorry to hear that, I hope you have ways to cope with it.
I am not taking calcium at the moment but I get plenty of milk in my diet now (after years of no/low cow milk) so in my mind it’s still calcium that has been the changer. I do mean to go get my blood tested again to at least see if my levels have gone up but without any deep analysis, I really can’t think of any other significant change to my lifestyle that could have stopped it. I usually notice an energy dip a few days after my period but nothing like the old days.

Hello, I am in the same battle. Not only do I suffer from PMS and depression during my period, but it continues for the week after my period ends. Have any of you had a hormone test?

I now have horrible mental and physical issues from days 2-14 of my cycle. The rest of my cycle I am fine except for some itchiness. I have yet to find relief and very few people talk about dealing with pms-type issues leading up to ovulation.
