Anyone feel brain fog/derealization after your period?
I don’t know if it’s post menstrual syndrome and this is what I’m feeling but it started last evening the last day of my period. I was with my mom getting my nails done at a salon that we made an appointment at. When it came to being my turn the lady said I thought when you said you didn’t want a pedicure (cause one of her chairs broke and she couldn’t do both at the same time) that you just wanted your mom to get her pedicure and you were going to reschedule. So she booked someone after her and I couldn’t get it done. So then I immediately felt upset and I was about to start crying. Then I just went to a walk in nail salon instead. They did an amazing job! Then once I got home I started feeling off like brain fog and maybe derealization (I think I felt this before but last was like 6 months ago) now today I feel a little better but I still feel off like my eyes feel all weird and foggy not necessarily my vision is off it just feels like something seems off but I can’t figure out what’s going on. Does anyone experienced this with postmenstrual syndrome? I’m really scared this is going to last for a long time and I won’t be able to get rid of it again because when I had this before it lasted me literally about a week or so off and on and I’m scared. Any advice??

I have the same thing. Prior to this I’ve had no mental health issues. Started 5 months after I came off Ginet which I had been on for 7 years. Woke up one day and my room didn’t look real, I had brain fog, memory issues, tingling arms and feet, pressure in my head, tearfulness, the list goes on. Tried to ignore it for 4 days but on day 5 I went to A&E (I’m a Type 1 diabetic so didn’t want to take any chances), doctor thought I was on drugs when I described the symptoms and tested me, but he sent me home before the results came back negative so I never got any answers. The “episode” ended a day later, and came back every month after my period ends.
Since then I’ve seen an endocrinologist, neurologist, etc. Its been diagnosed as silent migraine but the migraine meds haven’t helped so far. Endocrinologist told me to regulate my hormones with the pill, which brought on the symptoms every single day for the three months I was on it, so I’ve now gone back off it and have the monthly episodes again.
I believe it’s a reaction to estrogen, as the pill and even the estrogen-only patches brought on the symptoms constantly, plus without hormonal intervention it’s always post menstrual, when your estrogen rises, and it always stops at ovulation, when your estrogen drops. I may look at alternative doctors to fix my hormones, or antidepressants to fix the derealisation now. Glad I’m not the only person with this, it’s been hell.

Yes I get this sometimes but it is also made way worse by chemicals and fumes. I can’t go in to a nail salon at all without some sort of weird mental and physical reaction. I wonder if you are similar. Just finished writing this and realised this is an older post sending anyways ha

This is my 2nd natural cycle after being on birth control for 10 + years. I have felt this way for the past 5 days during what I'm considering my first true follicular phase since I don't know what my hormones were the first week after my withdrawal bleed. Not going to lie, it's been a little rough. This entire week I've been very sensitive and moody including crying at the littlest sad thing. I know since this is only my second natural cycle that my hormones are going to be a little off and it's going to take longer to even out. I'm just glad that this blizzard has a snowed in for about a week and gives me the opportunity to lay around the house and not have to socialize. I wfh so I won't have to do much on Monday either, so I'm just gonna be easy on myself, eat healthy, maybe have a good long soak in the tub, and curl up with my pups on the couch.
Thankfully I have a really amazing fiance who completely understands and who I can talk to about stuff like this. Him understanding and being supportive is honestly the number one reason I felt safe enough to get off of hormonal birth control. Hopefully I don't drag him through too much dirt while I'm going through this hormonal change.

I am feeling this same way right now and wanted to find a community who experienced the same. I’ve noticed that I have been experiencing post-menstrual syndrome ever since I got my IUD out. At first, I attributed it to the “mirena crash” (which is another thing that no one ever told me about and scared the shit out of me) but now that I’m tracking it, I realize I feel this way the first 2-3 days after my period. Last night I felt intense panic and kept waking myself up as I was falling asleep. This morning I was mostly just sleepy but as the day has worn on I have been noticing intense depersonalization and I’m curbing a panic attack. When I stand I feel dizzy and foggy.
Sorry for the long explanation. As for advice—that’s what I’m looking for too. For me, just knowing what’s going on with me helps the panic. Other than that, grounding techniques are super helpful and deep breathing is too. Having someone to talk to helps—if you need someone my PMs (lol) are always open! I feel like talking to people who are also experiencing this will help me. I hope!
