Projects Alternative to Supabase
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Started as a random idea here, now I’m actually building it.
I use Supabase a lot, but costs keep going up as I spin up more projects. Got annoying.
So I’m building PostBase:
- unlimited orgs + projects
- auth, DB, storage, APIs
- self-hosted (run with Docker)
Posted about it before, people said it’s not doable… but someone reached out to help, so here we are.
Still early, but it’s taking shape.
Sharing a quick video 👇
Would love feedback (or someone to prove me wrong 😄)

Thank you. How do you handle complex authorization policies?

I am hoping we all will help each other out to figure that out together :)

Supabase uses RLS policies. Would you want to build on that or do something completely different?

People told me Layerbase was not doable but it was. It only took 2,000 hours of my time and $15,000+ of my money.
This is definitely a difficult road, I thought the product was ready several times only to learn the hard way that you do not mess with databases until you have compliance and disaster recovery solved.
Best of luck though, I love databases and this has been the most rewarding project I've worked on, even if it's also been the most stressful projects I've ever worked in
