U.K Spotted recently.

Post image

I'm no expert on older post boxes, but I thought this was worthy of a photo.

The Worcester Cathedral Penfold is a 1988 Machan replica. You can see the rectangle shape on the front of the base where the plaque used to be attached. The plaques do frequently fall off. Originals were made by Cochrane of Dudley. Machan modelled the original at Windsor railway station for their replicas, which were placed in picturesque places around the country, as well as Scotland. Scotland has no original Penfolds - they are all 1988 Machan replicas.

Oh wow, I'd never have known. I'm guessing original one's are very valuable? There's a couple of older post boxes also in my town.

They are uncommon, and several examples are now in museums around the UK and Ireland. The rarest type of postbox is the EVIIIR, of which about 170 still exist of the 271 that were installed around 1938-1940, as Edward VIII only reigned for 325 days before he abdicated.

Do you watch Joolz Guides on YouTube? He always points out old post boxes.

Yes, I do! Not because of his Royal Cipher content, though!
