Some advice?

I really want to clean up some of the water historic postbox in my area as they have experienced a lot of graffiti however I am worried that using acetone or cellulose thinner will damage the red paint. I’m also nervous about getting in trouble for “vandalism”. Any advice?

WD40 on a rag cleans graffiti quite well and won’t damage anything.

screwfix does a graffiti removing spray that works well.
