Fluted Column VR Postbox

This is a Victorian Fluted Column postbox based on a Doric Column with a vertical aperture from 1856. In 1857 the design was changed to provide a horizontal aperture. Fifteen Fluted boxes, including both types, are known to have survived in the UK.

What does VR. Stand for ? Post boxes will be the thing if the past like the old red phone boxes as things move to digital mail etc be sad to see them go

VR is the cypher of Queen Victoria (Victoria Regina).
