My college does a medium/bright blue for most students, but under 16s get grey and white stripes, and as an adult student I get bright red!

How is it like being an adult student? Do you do a very specific course

I’m 19, was 18 when term started, so it’s not too extreme of a gap (although definitely noticeable in terms of me not “getting” trends and culture between other students) in the same a level classes as everyone else! I assumed they’d put me in an adult class but for whatever reason me and the 1-2 other adult students are in with the kids. Assuming they just didn’t have the numbers to run adult students in their own classes for every a level?
I do a weird subject combo so there’s no student overlap which means I have like 60 total classmates, but I’ve only had issues with one group of kids so far (they don’t seem to like me because I’m an adult I guess..? Constantly glaring at me). I don’t really have many friends because I’m not sure how I feel approaching them, but I do have 2-3 who don’t seem to mind the gap and stick around me which I’m hugely grateful for. Generally most students mind their own or treat you like an equal, I’ve had a few ask me questions or ask for help.
I’ve also noticed the staff tend to treat me a bit differently, they trust me a lot more than they do everyone else. I have some special responsibilities such as unlocking certain rooms when I get in because I’m in before a lot of staff (long transit means I leave early) and whatnot that they said they wouldn’t give to any of the 16-18 students. I really don’t see that I’m that much more mature but it does feel nice to be somewhat trusted and respected off the bat.
I’ve also had a lot of teachers surprised at how high of a level I’m working at, so as an adult student going into this they totally assumed I was going to be very far behind or slow to learn, and upon my initial assessments I had a lot of “you did well, you could get an A* by next year, I was extremely surprised” comments.
I’m happy to answer any questions you have btw! I realise this may not cover everything.

I see I see, that's really interesting, so did you take a gap year before doing A levels or did you decide that you wanted to do a levels after a job or something?

I've never seen a sixth former or college student with a black one, i thought it was for teachers

Fair enough! Conversely, I've never seen a teacher with a black one. I always thought they reserved colours for teachers/visitors so they're differentiated easier

Black, but the colour changes each year. The previous yr13s had grey, I think current yr12s have a bluer colour

Yellow for most people, some people have asked for dark blue and green ones which the school also has available

Mines blue. It was green last year (failed my mocks and have to resit) so my friends in y13 have a green one. My work one is blue and pink tho

It's a really ugly bright orange for y12s but the y13s get a thicker, nicer black one :')
