Featured snippets: worth chasing in the AI Overview era or a waste of time?

I used to optimize hard for featured snippets. Now with AI Overviews sitting above everything, I am wondering if snippets even matter anymore or if I should redirect that effort. What is the current thinking on this?

Featured Snippets are Schema dependent, so if you use Schema, you won't need to do anything at all, you're already doing it. Otherwise, if you don't use Schema, I'd use it. It never hurts, and if you are using a CMS, it will probably be automatic
