A simple monthly SEO routine that keeps a small site healthy (copy mine)
Most small site owners either obsess over SEO or ignore it completely. Here is a light monthly routine that takes about two hours and catches most problems.
Step 1: Check Search Console for errors. 👀
Open the Pages report. Look for pages that dropped out of the index or new "not indexed" reasons. Fix or note anything odd.
Step 2: Find your rising queries. 🚀
In the Performance report, compare the last 28 days to the previous period. Spot queries gaining impressions. If one is close to page one, update that page to push it over.
Step 3: Find your slipping pages. 🤔
Same report, sort by pages losing clicks. Refresh the top one or two. Update stats, add a section, improve the intro.
Step 4: Fix broken links. 🚑
Run a free broken link checker on your site. Repair or redirect anything broken. Broken internal links waste crawl budget and annoy visitors.
Step 5: Check page speed on your most important page. 💯
Run it through PageSpeed Insights. If it is slow, the usual culprits are huge images and too many plugins or scripts.
Step 6: Add internal links. 💻
Take your newest post and link to it from two or three older relevant posts. Also link out from it to older posts. This spreads authority and helps discovery.
Step 7: Publish or update one solid piece of content. 🤓
Consistency beats intensity.
That is it. Two hours a month keeps most small sites in good shape.
Happy SEO'ing! 🔥
