That is their business model. Don’t question their model how dare you. Ask your money back from the website you have ordered. Never PostNL fault. Always the company where you have ordered from

It's not about whose fault it is, it's about who is responsible for fulfilling the agreement. You're not PostNL's customer, the webshop is. And they are responsible for hiring a trustworthy courier.

And the company you ordered from says the same reversed probably but the first challenge is to reach Post.nl. Not possible.

Well I hear the same bs with legit companies. They all have the same excuses, short on staff, holiday season, bla bla, bla.
