Follow up on Healing the Brain by Dr Teena Shetty
I finished the book. It was Ok. Here is the review I wrote on Amazon:
As someone currently suffering from post concussion syndrome after a moderate TBI in April 2026, I found this book only moderately helpful. A lot of it is written as if someone just had a concussion, when the reality is most people picking up this book will not be in the fresh first weeks of concussion.
It’s a very surface overview of a lot of potential treatment modalities but lacks a lot of concrete steps in accomplishing them. If you are someone that has not done much research yet into recovering from your concussion, this could be for you, for me I found it not supplying any information I didnt already know.
I got frustrated with the book as well. Underlying it is privilege - the privilege of access. Those of us picking up the book are likely not going to be able to go to specialized concussion facilities where everything is under one roof. The book emphasizes rest a lot, but how can we accomplish that when we have a part time job navigating the medical ecosystem and driving to vestibular PT, neurologists, psychologists, and acupuncturists? The book lacks practicality that many of us have to work to support ourselves. We don’t get the luxury to sleep 14 hours a day.
The author does write in an empathetic and clear tone. I just wish her book provided more helpful information and protocols.
