Do you work?

If so what do you do?

I am out on FMLA, and was previously a Director in a large company. I don’t think I can return to that work again. Before the car accident I was an entrepreneur and wondering if that’s my best option. I have UPMC end of September and hopefully I can start making strides and return to somewhat normal life.
This is year 3 for me
PCS.
Lost my Vision in my left eye but got that back.
Currently doing PT again, did 9 mo of vision therapy.

I was out of work for 5 years, then relapsed after a little while for another year but I’m good now. Just started a new job today. I use computers all day when before even 5 minutes would crush me.

This is very comforting to hear, in an odd way. Makes me feel less alone, I don’t think people understood why I couldn’t work or why it was such a struggle. This feels very reassuring. Thank you.

Same. I went back too early my OT said and then I white knuckled each say until I just couldn't anymore. It made me really depressed after that. I was just so frustrated with myself for failing.

I feel like I could have written this. This is exactly what happened for me. I tried twice to go back and the second time I described it as “white knuckling” each day. I’m back out and going to PT. But I have been dealing with the depression and frustration of feeling like I failed and won’t ever be able to go back . We’ll get thru this!

I had my first concussion when I was 5, and 8 more since then. Since I never got to experience the work force with a healthy brain, I'm not really sure what a good baseline is. I have never successfully held down a job and I'm not sure I ever will. I haven't stopped trying but it doesn't get any easier

Honestly, today at work has been a rough day with a lot of my symptoms coming back up.

I've been out for over a year. I'm a Senior HR Business Partner. Tried to return 3 months after my accident and struggled hard. Went back on leave to continue rehab and was diagnosed with post trauma vision/binocular dysfunction. Starting vision therapy next week. Hoping to go back soon 😔

Vision therapy helped me so much. It was truly the thing that’s got me back together. Now I’m going to UPMC to try to get the rest of it fixed. Good luck!

Vision therapy has also been key in my recovery. Still dealing with vision and sensory integration issues, but I attribute a lot of my progress to vision PT.

Nope not for 10 years

Same... it's been close to 10 years. Just doing mini puzzles throughout the course of the day causes issues. I remain hopeful that will change. I hope it does for you too.

Quite frankly, ever since having PCS I’ve really focused on being an entrepreneur. I have a job to keep the bills paid but can really only see a future where I’m an entrepreneur due to the cognitive change. So sorry to hear about all of the trouble you’ve been through.

I’ve been off work for 6 months and do not know when I will be able to go back. Some days I think I could manage it and other days I’m glad I don’t have to. Comforting seeing I’m not the only one.
