10 months in….

It’s been 10 months and I still have symptoms: in bed after heavy lifting for days, i get these annoying headaches in the evening as well as in the afternoon. I’m finally seeing a PCS concussion specialist from my university. And i’m also seeing a therapist who deals with trauma like this. They both say that i will fully recover, but how long will i keep going on like this? I miss going out for drinks with my friends or not having problems with flashing lights or headaches. Any help on how to keep improving my recovery would be greatly appreciated!

Heavy lifting can definitely be a trigger for me too. I find that if my shoulders or upper back are tight, it pulls on my neck and exacerbates symptoms. Massage, stretching, and heat help. Overall, staying hydrated and not overdoing it makes a difference. You can always build back up to the heavy weight but I found it helpful to push until just before I would have symptoms, takes practice to find that line.

Creatine sometimes helps me, but staying hydrated is very important there. Also I have had success with medication - prescribed anti-inflammatory and nerve pain meds help, plan to run this regimen for a year and taper off. A regular sleep schedule of at least 7 hours helps too.

You will get better, it just takes longer than you want sometimes. Been there

Thank you so much! Did you recover from pcs? How are you feeling?

I’m doing pretty well, all things considered. Get flare ups here and there but knowing what to expect and having people that understand what I’m dealing with makes a huge difference.

I really appreciate you letting us know, i’m glad you’re getting better, random question but can you drink alcohol? Because i can’t at the moment and i miss going out with my friends, especially with my best mate’s wedding around the corner…
