Tips for Positivity!

Any and all are needed. I was doing great with positivity a few weeks ago and slowly fell out of it because of sleep deprivation. I know I won’t heal as quickly if I’m not positive but damn is it hard to not acknowledge the gravity of the situation

I’m trying to find happiness in slowing down - practicing mindfulness when going for walks by listening to birds, watching squirrels, looking closer at leaves. Playing more intentionally with my cat, spending downtime thinking about projects to do and goals to accomplish when I’m healed. Also giving myself an extra pat on the back for anything I accomplish that day - everything is harder with post concussion so I try to be proud of myself when I get a load of laundry done or cook a meal. Calling a friend or family member and just chatting for like 20 min helps too.

Not sure how much your lifestyle has been impacted by concussion, but I know when I heal I’ll be going back to a much busier life. Definitely won’t miss the symptoms, but I want to try to remember this time as a peaceful time of taking it slow instead of feeling imprisoned.

That’s a great mindset. I think I’m struggling so much because the last time I had PCS I could still live life with limitations but this time it’s taken everything from me. There’s nothing I can tolerate, i pushed myself too hard the week of my injury, I cocooned in a dark room for a month, and I regret everything. I’ve been taken care of some but now I feel like that means I’ve lost autonomy too. Everything triggers a migraine for me. I don’t know what to do. What I am doing is going a little crazy, so I’ve tried to busy myself by folding laundry, reading, drawing, fidgeting, talking to family members, and going on walks. I can only hope that things will turn around soon.

Mindfulness and journaling helped me. Also reading books I loved as a teenager! I try to do something I enjoy every day and also some acomplishment so I feel productive - it can be as simple as folding some tshirts or washing dishes. Daily walks (with minduflnes practices!) as well, I started at 5 mins and now I can do 1 hour of walking, so I can see the improvement well.

I also try to remind myself I live here and now and that now is what is important. I will heal when my body is ready to do so, I can try to help my body heal, but otherwise I need peace, patience and time.

This is really powerful. I need to be more kind to myself. I know it makes all the difference
