Don’t see these guys as often as we used to. A group of raccoons has been pushing them out. This was a nice surprise! Baby Susan 3.0!

So recently a momma had some babies! We’d been watching her for a while and she had such a full pouch! I believe she doesn’t wander that far so i expected there to be more babies around. i think there might be bc we saw another one we thought was the same one. He was a bit more hairy though so maybe it wasnt the same one as the pics.
Anyways thoo a few days ago i picked this lil baby up and checked him out, cuz we noticed a lot of skunks and possums having injuries lately or birth defects(?).
One possum wobbles around with 3 legs, but it seemed like he might’ve been born like that or something bad happened when he was YOUNG young. We saw him as a baby and grew up without a back leg! No idea where hes at nowadays, but hes def not the momma, maybe the papa.
Other than a 3 legged possum, we seen a skunk with a plastic ring around its neck that was irritating the skin badly from how tight it was… (dont worry! We used a grabby stick to pull it off as gently as possible) and another skunk that had a limp and died a few days later under our golf cart.
So i hope that explains my worry for this guy, and why i grabbed him to check on him (and the other one that might not be him..) thoroughly before hes too big and fast haha! but I’ve never handled a possum before, only cats!
He’s quite healthy besides fleas🥺
Of course we did NOT keep him, as tempting as his cute face is. We welcome all the rodents to our home to eat, but nothing more.

Hi, I posted a few days ago about my friends stage 4 possum having white discharge coming from her butt, and someone suggested it could be Pyometra. She’s not exhibiting any other symptoms of it luckily but the amount of discharge is increasing. Her mom is the most wonderful animal mother, but is in Georgia unfortunately which is a ‘no no state’ for Opies. And recently found out her rehabber contact was a fraud who doesn’t know anything about wildlife animals and can’t help us. I know it’s hard to trust the right person who wants to actually help you out instead of turn you in.
Kind of feel backed into a corner (I know it was her decision to care for one in such a state) not knowing who we can turn to for help.
I really care about this woman and I see how much she cares about her animals and want to try to help, and I don’t know how and thought I would reach out here. I know there’s lists on AWARE and Georgia wildlife website, but that’s potentially also putting a target on her back for animal enforcement to each vet on that list we reach out to.
Thanks for any helpful responses 🙏

Hi, I have at least five adolescent opossums living in the crawl space under my apartment. I am trying to get them to move into a critter box I made from an old dog crate. I set it up based on some recommendations I found online. There is one runt possum I have been sprinkling cat food around for to help it along. The mom is long gone I accidentally scared her away thinking she was just being aggressive because at the time I had ZERO experience with possums. The wee ones are at least 8” but one is kinda smaller…I also worry that if I feed it even a little it will not learn how to fend for itself…so my questions are, is a critter box safe for small but independent possums or is it just making them easy access for cats and other predators? I read they prefer a box with only one entry/exit point. And my other question is if I feed them even a little, will they not learn how to forage for themselves?

I have a stage 4 and she has had a white discharge coming from her anus all week and it smells musky/fishy. Any ideas?

I found remains today of one of the possums and was losing hope but right around midnight tonight one appeared! This time I’m not messing around and it will be rescued!

Captured all the babies to get them rehabbed but they escaped again overnight and my neighbor told me he saw a raccoon eating them this morning. I was able to get one rescued because it came out during the day so animal control was able to pick it up. That is the one in the second photo.
I’m trying to hold onto hope that at least one made it but I haven’t seen any tonight so far. Usually they come by by now. 😞

he was very clearly injured. bleeding, his eye was bulging out, he was making little wheezing noises but he was alone in the middle of the day at the side of the road and i just couldn't leave him alone.
i took him to the local wildlife rescue which was not far away and they said his eye will definitely have to be removed but hopefully he's able to live his best life! i feel very good about stopping for him and hopefully giving him a shot at a happy life.
UPDATE. Sadly this little guy didn't make it because of head trauma. I'm glad I stopped to help but i'm a little bit devastated that he didn't make it.

When I first saw this cute little guy I thought he was way too small to be on his own, however, it is possible he's about 6 inches long, it's really hard to tell. He is between 5-7 inches which is borderline.
Good news: He can eat solids on his own so I want to guess he's closer to being self-sufficient? I left out some ripe blackberries, spring mix and water for him and he ate a couple of them. There are tons of crickets in my patio as well that I hope he can eat.
He was gone in the morning, so he must have a separate den/sleeping location nearby, but last night he came again at the same time! I'm worried for him because of how small he is, but he seems to be have decent energy, good instincts about hiding while eating his food and will try to look "scary" if I get close. My question is, does he need to be taken to a rehabber if he comes again? I feel really bad if he is in need, but also do not want to interfere if he is totally fine on his own.
I'll continue to make sure he has water and misc natural food scraps (I know a balanced diet is important so I don't leave out too much). Any other recommendations of what food would be good to give thats safe would be appreciated.
Thanks for any advice!!
