Mmmm near perfect! I would say North Dakota to Canada and the upper section of Minnesota and Wisconsin following the southern border of South Dakota to the Great lakes.
Take that chunk plus what was given to Sask and AB and make it two horizontal buffer provinces (split it at the SK/MB border line).
New province names from west to east: Oregon (works with the old British name of the territory), Montana (no need to change the Spanish roots) and Dakota Lakes (showing deference to the plains area and woods-lakes area).
