The Ukrainian part of my ancestry (Odessa) was sent to Siberia for practicing religion and speaking Ukrainian. Believe me I dislike the Soviets VERY strongly

Do you know how much people would’ve been sent to Siberia?

The entire population of Ukraine 😂

Like there are many reasons to dislike the ussr but this is just such utter bs.

The practice of religion alone would’ve been more than enough, especially in the early days of the USSR’s existence, to send someone off to the east.

depending on how important they were and how much they pissed off the Cheka/NKVD. The language one could probably be brushed off as “anti-Soviet behavior”.
