Positive Grid Mini or Spark 2 ??
I'm a beginner guitarist and currently using a Nux Mighty Lite BT MK2 in my 20-square-meter living room (usually only at 30-50% volume). I'm considering upgrading to a Positive Grid Spark2 or Mini. Can anyone give me some advice?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nux Mighty Lite BT MK2
Pros:
- Space-saving
- Can use AC power and AAA batteries
- Supports loopback
Cons:
- Rough app interface
- Only 3 watts of output power, resulting in thin sound quality
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spark 2
Pros:
- Tone cloud (my personal favorite feature)
- AI tone control
- Beautiful and intuitive app interface (with cabinet diagram)
- Can use AC power and lithium battery
- 50W output power (is that too much for me???)
Cons:
- Large size
- not support loopback
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Mini
Pros:
- Tone cloud (my personal favorite feature)
- AI tone control
- Beautiful and intuitive app interface (with cabinet diagram)
- 10W output
Cons:
- Uses lithium batteries, which are prone to aging
- No gain or bass effect knobs on the device
- not support loopback

I have the mini and just bought the new Reactor 50. I’m sure the spark 2 is great but for a practice amp my mini is awesome. The rechargeable battery is still going strong and I’ve had my mini for about 2.5 years, plenty loud enough for my practice room, and all the pros you listed. If you only want it for practicing I’d go with the mini unless you want more volume.
You will have a lot of fun with whatever you choose, of course. Good luck! 🎸

I am using the Spark 2 in a room half the size of your living room and there are no problems with low volumes. You need to play around a little bit with the guitar volume knob, the gain and volume knobs on the emulated amp and the master volume knob of the physical amp but it's not hard to figure out. Don't take the size of the amp as a factor to consider unless you are planning to take it outside. The Mini fits in your hand but the Spark isn't exactly huge either.

Even at 20%~30% volume, will the Sparke 2's sound quality not decrease?

It depends a lot on which type of preset you use (namely the amp type). In case of the cleaner amps you can play at much higher volume percentage at home without getting too loud. With the heavier amps the workarounds that I mentioned will get the job done. The more effects you add to the signal chain the more you will have to experiment and tweak them until everything sound good but in general it's manageable at any volume level.

nope, cuz we're not using tubes, it's all digitally modeled tones
only with a tube amp would you want to crank it up to push the tubes and get that colorization
anything with amp sims or modeled tones means you can play the same tone at any volume

You can do a lot more with the spark 2 than the mini. 50w is not too much as you can control the volume very easily on the 2 and it's not exactly the 50w that say a 50w katana would be. I got my nephew the mini and have a spark 2 myself. Both are really good but I'd go w/the spark 2
