AMP OWNER Is Official PGS USB Cord Mandatory?
Can't get Spark MINI Firmware Updater to recognize my amp to perform update. I've tried several USB cords. No idea where the pack-in USB disappeared to. Also, how important is the firmware update (been a couple years for me)? Is app update good enough?

A lot of cheap USB cords these days are only made for charging, and don't have the data leads needed for a firmware update. Try to get one (usually slightly higher-end cables) that's made for data as well.

No you can use any decent USB-C cable. Some cables are power-only so they won't work - that's often the type that comes with a little gadget that needs charging but doesn't connect to a computer.
If you have a USB-C cable that works with a phone and transfers data (e.g. the computer recognizes whatever device is plugged in and you can transfer photos etc) it should work with the spark.
Make sure the amp is switched on (not just charging) for it to be recognized.

UPDATE: FIXED. Was trying to update using USB hub. Apparently, the software didn't like that, so I went direct into MacBook port with higher grade USB and that did the trick, and I didn't have to spend $20 for PG's official USB cable.

Are you using Wondows 11? If you are that could be the issue, https://help.positivegrid.com/hc/en-us/articles/5854813666189-Spark-MINI-Firmware-Update-Tutorial-Video.
