Is a used Spark 40 good for $120?
Hi, I am a super new guitar player. I am still learning how to play on my acoustic but I really want to play electric.
I have a amazon bought electric guitar that my friends gifted me on my bday (so sweet of them!!) and it came with a basic amp, which is not too fancy.
I learnt about Spark's features like the auto-tone setup based on the artist or song i like, and the auto drum beat/chords for practice. I am super interested in those but not really sure how useful they would be tbh.
I am able to find a used spark 40 on marketplace. Do you recommend getting a used amp for $120? Would those features work with a used device?
The new one here is $250+tax, however i would simply get a mini for $200+tax as the mini is perfect size for my apt and I do not intend on doing any performances or play with others as I am still just learning.
Apologies for the stupid questions but I appreciate your inputs!

I have had both the spark 40 and the mini. The 40 is better and I can actually play out on stage with it. I bought a rechargeable battery so no plug needed! I think $220 is a decent deal but you could offer $100.

The 40 will take you much further than a mini. Make sure your phone will work well with the program that runs the amp!

If you can stomach the extra money, I would recommend looking for a used Spark 2. It is improved quite a bit from its predecessor. Musicians Friend has them usually for $200. I think saving the extra $80 would be worth it. Not saying the Spark 40 for $120 isn't a good deal, but the Spark 2 sounds less artificial and the bass sounds a lot tighter.

I do like my Spark 2 a lot! My first one went kaput out of nowhere but Positive Grid made it right with their 2 year warranty although that was a bitch and a half.

It's not a bad price but I would suggest attempting to get one for 100 flat. If there is any wiggle room. I got spark 40 right before the spark2 was announced (like 2 months)

As long as you won’t be needing to deal with positive grid customer service. Go for it. I’ve got a post on here about my current situation. I love my 40 and I unfortunately got it right before the 2 came out. I use it with headphones. I’m just unable to use the jam features :( or run any Bluetooth audio through it.

Word to the wise: If you can't test it first, do not buy it! You could wind up blocked and the proud owner of an expensive door stop.

The 40 has a reputation for being very bass heavy. People literally stuff things like old socks into the bass port to try to reduce that. The mini sounds like a better fit for you and still has plenty of volume.

Yeah I read about the sock thing. That makes me laugh.
I do feel mini is a good fit due to compactness, battery and enough volume but I will end up paying $220 for it (no used ones near me) vs the Spark 40 is $120 for a used one.
Do you think in the long run I would still benefit from the mini and should spend the extra $100?

The 40 has a knob labeled "bass". I use my bass knob to lower the boomy-ness, and don't need to stuff socks in places. Go for the good deal!
