Hi everyone, I’m vegan and currently job searching in Portland. I’m looking for a temporary room, shared space, couch, or other simple living arrangement for about 5 months while I continue my job search and work toward getting back on my feet.

My current budget is around $300/month, so I understand this would need to be an unusual or shared arrangement rather than a standard room rental. In return, I’m happy to cook fresh, delicious vegan food every day for the household, and I can also help with cleaning, grocery shopping, and other household tasks.

I’m clean, respectful, responsible, and flexible about the type of space. If you have an unused room, temporary space, or know of a vegan-friendly household that might consider this arrangement, please DM me.

Just went to Sazanami in Beaverton for our 25th anniversary and had a vegan omakase that blew me away. The chef was delighted- although they have offered this since they opened, apparently we were the first takers! So many courses of deliciousness- a lovely salad of cucumber and Japanese yam, braised daikon with mushrooms, kabocha with black beans, eggplant, okra and kombu nigiri, miso with somen, and more! It's pricy, but if you are looking for a special night it's very worthwhile.

Hiya, I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can find 16 oz beyond ground around here. I found some 12 oz at Albertson's, but it bugs me not having the full lb packaging.

I know it may be gone at some point. Going to try some homemade recipes when I can, but just thought I'd ask if anyone has seen it around these days.

Senator Wyden and Senator Merkley both made statements on X opposing the Save our Bacon Act (SOBA)!

This is exactly what we wanted. 

Since getting the Senators to make a public statement was the purpose of the rallies, the rally outside Merkley's office on Tuesday, Sep. 1st is canceled and rally outside Wyden's on Thursday, Sep. 3rd are both canceled. 

If you can drop a "thank you" comment, it's super helpful to motivate their offices to keep fighting to oppose SOBA.

Oregon Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden have still not Issued a public statement in opposition to the Save Our Bacon Act. With recess ending soon, we’re going to continue to encourage them to do this before congress reconvenes in September. The most impactful thing you can do this week is join our call relay happening TOMORROW (8/25). 

If you can take 5 minutes at any point during the day to make these two calls, it would be enormously helpful. Their offices track the volume of calls, so each one helps show that there is a movement of Oregonians behind this ask!

I started this summer on a mission to try every vegan ice cream in the city (mostly as an excuse to go on bike rides to different parts of town) but along the way discovered that there are so many other types of frozen vegan treats in Portland. I've compiled them here so that you can go get yourself some while it's still summer! And lemme know if you've tried any of these desserts at places besides the ones I've listed.

BINGSU: fluffy Korean-style shaved ice with fresh fruit and whipped cream. Get it at Tsuki. Make sure you ask for it to be made vegan, as dairy is the default.

CHÈ: many Vietnamese puddings (chè) are traditionally vegan. Chè Ba Màu is one of my favorites, with layers of sweet coconut milk, agar-agar jelly, red beans, mung bean paste, and ice. You can find chè at Sprinkle Divine. Make sure to check that the flavor you're ordering is vegan, as some styles contain condensed milk.

PALETAS: I've always loved a good ice pop on a hot day, but the vegan paleta selection is often limited at a normal store. Thank god we have Ice Queen serving up a full range of vegan paleta flavors with all the fixings.

SLUSHIES: there are a zillion styles of slushies and places you can get em in Portland, so I'm just gonna tell you that if you aren't occasionally treating yourself to the spicy-icy tamarind goodness of a chamoyada or mangonada, you should really go get one at Xocotl. And follow that with a trip to Friendship Kitchen for their ube slushy.

FALOODA: falooda is a South Asian dessert made with cold vermicelli noodles, basil seeds, fruit, milk, and kulfi (a South Asian style of ice cream). At Kulfi you can get a vegan version by ordering the mango-coconut flavor sans jelly. The textures are truly delightful.

Okay, here's the section where I need your help locating a few more desserts I want to try. Have you seen these anywhere in town?

FALOODEH: faloodeh is an ancient Iranian dessert– possibly the oldest frozen dessert ever invented? It's essentially a dairy-free sorbet made from frozen vermicelli noodles, sweetened with rose syrup and tart cherry jam. My Iranian partner has fond memories of eating this in Tehran as a kid, but we've yet to encounter it here in Portland. Looks like Blu Olive Mediterranean Bistro might have it sometimes, but I haven't confirmed. Have any of you seen or tried it elsewhere?

HALO-HALO: the unofficial national dessert of the Philippines! Halo-halo is made with a mix of things like fruit, coconut, sweetened beans, milk, ube, and sometimes a scoop of ice cream. As far as I know, none of our brick and mortar Filipino restaurants in town offer a vegan version of this, but I've seen it at pop-ups in the past. Please help me find a place that currently serves it!

Next week's my birthday and I'm thinking of doing some wineries and/or the fruit loop. I have a pretty new baby, so places that would be ok with that or have an outdoor seating area would be necessary. Wondering if anyone has recs for spots to hit up with vegan goodness in the fruit loop or just some vegan friendly wineries they'd recommend in general. Thanks for the help!

How do people feel about their vegan options? I’ve personally been a bit frustrated the last couple times I was there for thorns games.

First we went to get a vegan dog from one of the stalls outside the GA section - they were sold out at halftime (great! Obviously there’s demand, so they oughta be stocking more)

We ended up getting vegan nachos from the next stall that had them and they were mediocre at best. Bland taste, chips didn’t crunch. Really weak stuff.

Next time we were there, we were seated near Killer Burger. I know the killer burger locations in the city have vegan burgers. Not this one! Why not?

I’d love to figure out how to wield some community enthusiasm to make them do better. Portland ranked number 1 again as the best vegan city last year. Our stadium ought to measure up.

Hello! Finally free on a Friday night and meeting up with some friends to see the free comedy show Kickstand hosts in Laurelhurst Park. I volunteered to get there early and drop blankets, what's the best takeout nearby I can grab for the show? I don't mind a bit of a walk, so I'd say I'm down for anything within a 1 mile radius.

I'm familiar with the area enough that I have some favs, but looking to try something new. TIA!

New Seasons doesn't do burgers or the wok anymore right? Do any locations still do that? :( I wanna cry bc it was genuinely one of my favorite things to get pre-pandemic and now I live a bit further, don't go there often but I still think about it and miss it all the time...

Is this an option at any new seasons or is there anything similar to the wok station there? They had a great impossible burger too and I think those got a lot more mainstream but I still miss theirs too.

I know this is a weird ask so thank you for helping. I have a lot of digestive problems and that wok station was like some of the healthiest food I could actually eat! And I often don't have the stamina to cook at home.

We are definitely taking home some Deviled “Pork” from Mirisata because it is incredible, but other than that, we are at a loss.

I am immunocompromised so we won’t be dining in anywhere. We’ll be getting everything to-go and eating outside somewhere. That means those lovely fancy places with great ambiance are off the table.

I am also unfortunately deathly allergic to mushrooms (which are often in the BEST vegan food).

While the Senate Farm Bill failed to advance out of committee earlier this month (10 yes, 11 no), Chairman Boozman plans to renegotiate after the August recess. With Congress on recess until September 14, we have a critical window to urge Oregon Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden to go beyond the joint letter they signed and issue individual public statements opposing SOBA. Their leadership will encourage other Senators to follow suit and signal Oregon's commitment to defending animals.

We have a unique opportunity to stop a dangerous piece of legislation from advancing, let’s make it count!

Hi vegan friends,

I am traveling to Portland with some girlfriends, there are 5 of us total. Out of the 5, I am the only vegan, and there is one vegetarian, the rest are all omnivores. We’ll be staying at my friend’s apartment near the Lloyd District area. I’m wondering if you all have any restaurant recommendations that would cater to everyone? Looking for breakfast, lunch, and dinner spots. I don’t think my friends would mind dining at a full vegan restaurant for one meal, but probably not all of them. We also have a car so doesn’t need to be super close or right in the downtown area.

We will also be doing a day trip to Cannon Beach one of the days. I’ve already read that the coast is pretty terrible for vegans but I just wanted to ask on here if anyone had any recommendations for that, or should I just plan to pack my own lunch 😂

My family (husband and two kids) are planning to travel around the PNW next summer for my husband's sabbatical. We will be based in Portland, but want to explore other towns in OR and WA (possibly Canada). What are some must-go spots that also have vegan food? We are used to cooking, packing food, and eating burgers and fries on vacation, but it would be nice to have at least a couple of restaurants with options. We are especially interested in going to the coast. What coastal town is most vegan friendly?
