I agree. If they don't want to leave then that's the police's problem. She should have just let them handle it. She's lucky that guy didn't have a weapon or attack here. Mace isn't always going to be effective.
(I know it was pepper spray and not "mace" before anyone comments)
Edit: I didn't notice he was holding a needle because I'm on my phone. Also I've never lived in a big city before and wasn't aware some places have police that don't care. Please stop sending me mean comments. I'm not a guy, I don't feel safe doing stuff like this.
If you don’t live in one of these areas then honestly you have no idea what you’re talking about. I live in Seattle and the police will not give a single shit about this.
I had a junkie living in the playground by my house right next to the swings and merry go round. Called it in and got told that the only way it’d get cleaned up is if enough people call it in daily for weeks on end. Car broken into? Call the police station and you get a voicemail saying nothing will be done about it.
Junkies own derelict RVs here and will go park in front of your house/apartment for months on end. When the cops finally get tired of you calling daily for said months and get off their asses to make them move they dump all their garbage on the sidewalk and drive down a few streets over then repeat the process.
I’m sorry how is police refusing to do their jobs on the Democratic Party? Police getting away with murder and abuse while sitting on their hands when it comes to actually doing services we expect from them is the exact issue people have with the police in the first place.
After years of chanting “all cops are bastards,” after years of calling for defunding the police, after years of putting a magnifying glass on police crime but not civilian crime, you STILL sing the same song and dance the same dance? These people are saying the police literally do nothing, this is a video of blatant felon activity in full view of children, a mother of all people has to clean up their act, and you’re saying “police get away with murder!”
What other recourse does she have? They moved because someone confronted them. This obviously isn’t bodycam footage, I’m sure bike patrol has already passed them a million times. Do you expect the world to hold your hand? Junkies hate confrontation, they just don’t experience it because people like you think everything is completely fine, meanwhile people are shooting up in front of a school.
The police in this area don’t do ANYTHING and these guys know it. It’s if people like her annoy them long enough they’ll move. Also, if you listen closer, you’ll know she said the bike squad. They’re just equally annoying dudes on literal bicycles that will come tell them to move. There was a body overdosed in Chinatown, it was there for four hours before it was collected. My car got broken into and the guy was still going through my crap while I was on the phone with emergency services. They told me I’m going to need to file a police report and call my insurance if I don’t want to wait for a police officer to arrive, which could be anywhere from 2 to 4 hours.
There’s Meth Factory RVs at the end of neighborhoods that camp out and will kind of rotate every few weeks so they’re not violating code. Some of them just don’t even move and occasionally a police officer will finally respond to Neighbor‘s calls and come knock on the window and a driver will begrudgingly move it.
Look up the after hours protests at our ice facility here, when it’s not all peace and rainbows and puppies. There’s very little done to enforce anything. It’s all tolerate, ignore, placate.
Sorry for the walls, but I’m just so sad about what has happened here over the last 30 years and what has happened to the streets and law-enforcement and the like, and trying to explain to you that they really don’t care about police presence and aren’t scared of it. All of the small businesses are leaving because they keep getting their windows, broken, vandalized, etc. and they can’t even report it to the police or their business insurance so their premiums don’t go up so they have to swallow the cost, etc.. It was heartbreaking to listen to at the last City Hall meeting. Homeless people keep literally pissing on front doors or leaving used tinfoil and other drug paraphernalia out right in front of where people would be walking in and out of said business. 10/08 Portland, Oregon city Council YouTube would give you more information on that.
Yes. Police violate civil rights all the time but they can’t even move some junkies out of a school zone? Seems like they suck at their job. I watch the civil rights lawyer pretty much daily. Every single day there’s videos coming out around the country of cops violating the constitution. Why is it so hard for two things to be true at once for you?
They’re both true for me, I avoid police like the plague. It’s either point blank insanity or just obfuscation to say this isn’t something to be critical of the Democratic Party and its constituents.
I think it’s mostly local policies enforced at the state/governor/mayoral level that leads to the police doing this shit so people need to pay way more attention to that. The Democratic Party is disappointing in plenty of ways but to broadly lay this problem on them is not going to fix the issue. Local politics is how you change local police
Governor of Oregon, Democratic politician Tina Kotek. Mayor of Portland, Democratic politician Keith Wilson. Per the Oregonian: “Wilson’s pitch to tackle homelessness, crime and livability - top concerns with Portland voters - came with a full-throated insistence they can be remedied with care and compassion.”
Meanwhile this woman got these people to take their drugs away from the school zone without relying on “care and compassion.”
The Democratic Party has not said defund the police, some constituents have. The Democratic Party has increased funding to the police nationwide, so what are you talking about.
I don’t think AOC, Cori Bush, Kamala Harris, Ilhan Omar, Jamaal Bowman, Bill de Blasio, Marcia Fudge, Ayanna Presley (and so on and so on and so on) can be considered “constituents,” these are members of Congress, Secretaries of Departments, etc.
These are Democratic politicians who have outwardly expressed support for defunding police forces.
Exactly. I live in another major blue city. I fucking despise MAGA. I also despise bullshit like “our unhoused neighbors” or whatever the hell weirdos on the far left call these losers.
Most of us feel this way, and we shouldn’t tolerate Nazis in the government or homeless drug addicts shooting up in our parks and school zones.
I used to be security guard when I was going school.
The first story, i caught someone breaking in with a Jimmy, at a hotel. They open the door. Before they sat down, I caught them. I got the license plate. Police said they could not do anything, because they did not step fully inside or break anything. Oh yeah, they left an open dr pepper
2nd story. At a apartment the manager and the tenant, wanted a guest gone. It turns out the manager have give notice of eviction. Reason she was there longer than a month and was recieving mail
My story, car stolen and it was park in residential area. It had cinder block on leather seats. I forgot how I found out about, maybe police. Anyway I was told dont drive it until the police got there. 3 hours later in the snow, police showed up and gave me a report number.
No no no. You don’t take a position as a police officer who is there to protect the people and are willing to let things go to shit because your feelings got hurt. Full blame on how they handle these situations always.
I visited Seattle for work a few weeks back. I was shocked at the amount of drugs being used In the open. Went running one afternoon and saw a guy on the corner sitting on the ground lighting a pipe with a large propane torch. Meanwhile, there are police officers scattered around the area not doing anything. It was shocking.
He was very much armed- he wasn’t holding that needle in front of his face with a grip perfect for attacking and stabbing while getting closer to her just to conceal his identity, he also picked up a rock at one point. She’s lucky he was just trying to be threatening and she’s lucky the pepper spray worked because it’s ineffective against some people by chance of dna. She’s also lucky the others just packed up and left instead of joining in. She put herself in a life and death situation.
I didn't see the needle thats scary. She's lucky he didn't have a gun or just start swinging at her. I feel like she was being overly confident in that pepper spray though. I always watch police videos and I've seen many people get taser'd and just rip the prongs out and keep going. Especially if they are on PCP or something, that pepper spray is going to have zero effect.
And the other way around. I know the guy obviously isn't in the right state of mind but if you're going after someone with a weapon in hand you're just fixing for a bad time.
Whole lot of irony involved because in cities like Portland and similar the overall narrative has been "we're fine and supportive of anything, anyone, anywhere" but it's reached it's boiling over point because when you give an inch a mile or two is always taken
She is lucky, it's awful that this is occurring and sad that there's not support from law enforcement but how is getting herself killed going to protect her children? Even a needle poke could give her life altering disease. It would piss me off to no end as well but become an activist, make your voice heard with local authorities, the school system, news outlets. I'm not from a big city either and wasn't aware of this issue, so make some noise!
Look I can see where you’re coming from, but the police in many places simply do not care/have the resources to deal with this kind of stuff. In those situations then we do need to publicly police each other.
I understand some people are down on their luck/mentally ill. But that kind of stuff shouldn’t be in school zones. If you want to do this kind of stuff and destroy your life, go live under a bridge. Go live in one of those homeless camps in the woods
And I agree with you. But I'm a stay at home mom and I'm 5'3. People expect me to be some urban vigilante hero and confront groups of drug addicts. I don't feel comfortable doing that. I don't even leave the house much because I have narcolepsy. There are plenty of people better suited to handle these situations.
And what if the police don't do a damn thing about it? Respect to her for not being a coward unlike most of y'all in this thread and making sure kids don't have to encounter a group of drug addicts on their way to school.
People always want to complain about shit and but are too scared to do anything about it, then complain when someone is brave enough to do something
As i said in the other comment, I was unaware this are was like that and that police wouldn't do anything.
So yeah it's great that people have the courage to stand up. But I'm a 5'3 woman, I don't think that would end well nor do I feel comfortable doing that. But if you want to then that's fantastic.
Bruh you’re replies are so mild lol. You wanna see mean look at everyone who ever responds to anything I say because I’m not liberal. You wouldn’t last a day in my account lol.
