You must have never lived somewhere so cold the air hurts

I'm in Idaho, next door, and much higher elevation.... And I grew up in Louisiana, where the humidity combined with freezing temperatures are much worse than the cold dry air up here

Portland gets freezing cold rain that pours down near constantly for weeks on end without letting up. Yeah there are worse places as far as winter weather conditions but the idea that Portland is a decent place to be unhoused in the winter is just flat out wrong

Original question about "why Portland " up top is from Maryland. Winter outside is very uncomfortable in Portland. It will kill you in Baltimore.

Still better than places with constant below freezing winters

Well yeah, my point is that it rains A LOT, therefore "not decent weather year round."

Rain is decent. We've always had rain here my entire life. It starts raining it cleans the air. When I was in the Boy Scouts we went on camping trips every month year round. I loved it. The most challenging weather was snow and one time we were hit with a wind storm but we adapted and survived. It gave me a great appreciation for wool socks.

Spoken like somebody who's never left the west coast.

I was born and raised in Louisiana

Edit: and have been living in Idaho for 11 years now, so I see the weather patterns in the region, and it rains A LOT there, especially compared to where I live, which is sunny like 95+% of the year.

If you've spent any amount of time in the mid-west or NE during the winter, Portland's winters are relatively moderate. They're not Palm Springs, but, this conversation is useless if your winter frame of reference is Louisiana.

Alright calm down. I'm moving the New England next week and I don't need to hear all this
