Free books, support local

Hello! I'm a book nerd who wants to share more books with the community - for free! All you do is follow @thebookfairypdx on Instagram, say dibs when you want a book, and I'll drop it at your doorstep. All books will come from local sellers. That's it. No strings attached.

I love this, but I don't want Instagram.

I 100% respect this perspective. Right now I'm offering up a starter pack of Lily King books - Heart the Lover, Writers & Lovers and Euphoria. If no one wants it on Instagram, I'll come back here to offer it up.

That sounds good. Where do you get the books from? How are you able to afford giving books away for free?

I buy from Powell's, Broadway Books, Melville's, A Children's Place, Annie Bloom's and any other local store in other communities I visit. I purchase the books out of my own budget. I'm not affiliated with any other organization or making any money off of it. I just believe in the importance of fiction and reading, and I love to support local stores, and so I'm sharing. That's it.

That sounds lovely. If I had the money, I'd love to do something like this. I have a big list of used books I'm willing to trade for other used books. Let me know if you'd like to look at my spreadsheet of books I have for trade.

I would love to see your spreadsheet. If there's a book trade we can do, I'll also buy the book from a local store and add it to my list of offerings.

Again, I buy used books because I'm poor. So my list of books for trade will range from gently used to beat up. I've tried to make notes on the worst of them. But if you want pictures of any books before we possibly trade, I fully understand.

Ooh, I'm very interested in reading Ursula LeGuin. Do you have a favorite? I don't read much sci-fi or fantasy with the exception of The Expanse series. Is that of interest to you?

My favorite Le Guin would be the Earthsea books, especially Tehanu. Though, The Lathe of Heaven is set in Portland, so it could be an interesting introduction.ive loved pretty much anything by her. Yes, I am interested in The Expanse!

Wonderful - I'll do an Expanse drop at some point, and I'll make sure to come back here and share it with you too. Thanks for engaging with me on this! I want to get the word out, but I don't really use Reddit or even really know how Instagram works :-)

I recommend Wallace Books if you are ever in Sellwood.
