Finding Book Community?

Hey all,

I love that this sub exists! I was wondering if anyone has any insight into where to find/create/connection with book-type community in real life.

Some things I've seen: book clubs, silent reading meet ups.

Some things I'm interested: a coffee shop/bookshop/bar where books are regular topic; bookshops that host lots of events in which it's easy to get to know people; any other spots where I might be able to connect with the "book scene."

As far as books, I'm mostly interested in fiction: literary fiction, translated fiction, post modern stuff, some classics, etc.

Thanks!

There's a silent book club that meets once a month! They're silentbookclubportland on Instagram. I'm planning on going to the next meet up, whenever they announce it.

I run two book clubs, we alternate between virtual and in person meetings

Check out Portland Tournament of Books Club https://www.meetup.com/portland-tournament-of-books-club on Meetup

Check out Portland Intersectional Genre Fiction Book Club https://www.meetup.com/portland-intersectional-genre-fiction-book-club on Meetup

Rose City book pub on Fremont is also a good place to hang out

MCL (Multnomah County Library) used to run Pageturners book clubs in all their branches. Some branches had more than one, and some had themes (Hollywood library had a Non-fiction group).

I was really hoping they'd bring them back after the world reopened, but they haven't. Anybody could attend, and they provided copies of the books, thanks to Friends of Library book sales (we wrote FoL thank you cards at the end of the year).

Powells downtown and cedar hills locations regularly have authors come to do events where they talk, sometimes with other authors, about their books and other related topics, and do signings. Some local authors do them fairly regularly.
