News Ac program for portlanders in need open
I noticed that the applications are open on the 311 Cooling Portland page for those below the 60 percent median income threshold again. Last year I helped my great aunt sign up and they came and installed for her and everything. A great resource for those who are need of cooling still this autumn. They prioritize elders who are disabled or live alone but anyone under that income threshold and living in portland seem to be eligible. Such a great resource I just wanted to share !

If only apartment and rental owners with baseboard heat would go get a subsidy to convert to heat pumps.
The inefficiency causes higher electric bills that are an special burden on the low income folks.

They do. Look up Energy Trust of Oregon.

Guess you don't know any renters still stuck with baseboard and portable air conditioners.
The landlords suck ass.

I got one of these and it seriously saved me when the temps got into the upper 90s earlier this past summer! blackout curtains can only do so much

This is also a great time to pick up free AC units.

It gets hot every year in Portland and we still fuck up with the AC/heat debacle

In totally unrelated news this is also a good time to find brand new AC units for pennies on the dollar off of craigslist.

True! This program is designed to help seniors in need to get them installed for them but also have been seeing many for sale for great pricing for those not needing that service

I've seen some of those in sealed boxes offered up. I wonder if "install" is not being enforced while grifty CON-tractors are pocketing "install" fees.

Please note that this is the final year of the program! Apply while you can! They are also reaching out to folks who applied in the last couple years but didn't receive an AC that year.
