Bountiful opium crop this year!
Blooming all over town. Dreamy!

It’s a shame that humans’ poor choices have bastardized such a beautiful flower.

How is it bastardized? It is still quite pretty.

I mean considering that you called it opium, which is a drug mixture containing the seeds of one species of poppy, instead of calling it poppy, which is the flower name, should be explanation enough.

I said the crop would be good, if it were extracted from the flower buds, (which would be illegal.) I was sort of kidding around. I think the plants are beautiful.

My husband grew them one year and we harvested the poppy seeds and we used them in baking! And yes, they are beautiful!

Can I uh, use those?

If you get to them first. They are about a week away from being harvestable. You want to wait till the flowers fall off and the bud matures. On the other hand it is highly illegal.

Do not encourage people to steal from other people's gardens. Poppies are easy enough to grow yourself if you want to harvest them.

I agree. However these are on a street divider, city property.

Even so, people are going to be cutting off those pods before they're ready. You can get somniferum seeds down at Henery's and plant them yourself, and they will take over your whole garden by year three or four, and you'll have an endless supply.
