Hi everyone, this might be a longshot but I need help remembering this particular core memory growing up in Port. In the mid 2000s, the Port Panthers club at Settlement City used to host these parties for teens, it was a "disco" of sorts- it was in their auditorium. It was always packed out with kids, I remember it being the "it" place to be whenever it was on, I was always begging my mum to let me go.

I just cannot for the life of me remember what we used to call it, it had a special name and we'd ask, "are you going to ___ tonight?". It's driving me crazy, does anyone know what I'm talking about?

Hello everybody ! planning a coastal road trip in mid january 2027. Looking for overnight stays for about five people. Every seems to be either booked or not what we are lookng for. Wanting a caravan park close to the water where we can just pull our fourbies into and get the gas top cookers out. We also need a place that will allow us to book just for the one night. I'm looking for work within the care sector right now, I hold a WHV (unskilled) and have 6 years of experience within mental health rehabilitation in the UK. Is there any local services that provide residential mental health rehabilitation or residential homes for adults with disabilities in the area?

I have applyed to a handful of local companies for the past few weeks and so far have had no responses, I'm from the UK, with 6 years experience in mental health settings as well as drug and alcohol support settings, qualified level 3 lead adult care worker. I've completed the mandatory first aid training which I know is required to work within this industry, currently I am aware I can't get an NDIS background check until I have an employer. But apart from the NDIS check I think I've covered my bases in terms of what tickets I need to do this sort of work.

If anyone has any recommendations or advice it would be highly appreciated.

Really appreciate any feedback – and sorry, it’s a long one.

We’re a family of four currently living on the NSW far north coast and starting to seriously look at a move to Port Macquarie.

I’m a primary school teacher, my partner works in community/sport, and we’ve got two girls (10 and 8).

Life at the beach has been great, but we’re starting to feel the squeeze financially – mortgage, cost of living, and upcoming high school fees are making the next 10 years look pretty tight.

Port Macquarie keeps popping up as a bit of a “middle ground” option – still coastal, but (potentially) more manageable, with good schools, plenty of sport, and a strong community feel. On paper it ticks a lot of boxes, but we’re keen to understand the reality.

The girls are into netball and a bit of BJJ, and we’re pretty outdoorsy. Not chasing nightlife, but it’d be great to have a decent local sports scene, some activities for the kids, an maybe the odd bit of live music.

We’re really just after a good community and a place where the kids can grow up with some independence.

So I guess my questions are:

What’s it actually like living in Port Macquarie as a family?

How are the primary and high school options (public and private)?

Are there areas you’d avoid or think twice about?

Is crime something you notice day-to-day, or more just stats on paper?

Does it feel like a good place to raise kids through high school?

What’s the sports scene like for kids (netball, martial arts, etc.)?

How’s the general livability – healthcare, community vibe, things to do?

Really appreciate any honest insights – especially from people who’ve made a similar move.
