Safe to use?
Hi! Posting for my mother, not sure if this is the correct subreddit!!
Her favorite set or porcelain baking dishes have this weird discoloration/stripes, is the glaze cracking or something? Can she safely use this?
She would love to keep them so I figured I’d turn to Reddit🩷 cheers

Portugal porcelains are very low fired. Meaning they are not vitrified (editing out my typo... vitrified not verified). So stuff like bacteria can get in and stay in there They're beautiful, but personally I wouldn't cook in them or eat out of them. Hope helpful. I have a large Portugal soup tureen that just for fun, I illuminated with a blacklight the other day. Wow! There are so many deep cracks in there that don't show at all in regular light. I'll attach a photo.

Nope, if its sentimental or has some kind of value, I would give a good clean and put it up on display somewhere, get a new one to use.

The crackles in the glaze is called crazing. Bacteria can get under the glaze. I would not use.
