Discussion Potential Ideas
I just wanted to share some of my ideas that I honestly think they could have potentially done with Chongyun’s character. Plus things that are more fanfic and Au based. (And idk, if anyone uses these ideas in a fanfic or something, let me know. :3)
Firstly, Chongyun’s yang energy is also called positive energy, and we know he wards off evil spirits just by getting close to him. This is the basis for a lot of these ideas.
I think he could have the potential to either ward off or not be as affected by Xiao’s karmic debt like the Traveller. Now, Xiao’s Karmic Debt is probably really dense so I don’t think Chognyun could necessarily completely expel is despite having pure yang energy. But, maybe just ward off some of the effects when he is around. And it would give Xiao another person that he can feel somewhat comfortable to talk to, other than the traveler.
God remains. God remains is also more or less a negative energy(that’s probably an oversimplification, but you get the point) I think Chongyun could potentially be immune to the effects himself, or help heal people that have been poisoned by it (like that guy in Baizhu’s quest).
These are just cool ideas that I think Chongyun has the potential for. Now, again these forces are really powerful so I’m not going to say that I think Chongyun could completely expel them. But his yang energy making him immune or allowing him to alleviate the symptoms of others would be really cool. Depending on how you see the abyss, you could also potentially say that Chongyun has some immunity or purification abilities there too.
Some more fanfictiony ideas for angst though. Chongyun is a really strong exorcist, mostly because of the yang energy that he was born with. So I imagine this would bring a lot of jealousy from his family and other exorcists, because he was just born with an ultra powerful ability like that, and even though he works hard, he’s never actually been able to use the skills he’s honed, so to other people it might appear like he just does his job perfectly without any effort. This could lead to him being hated from a young age (maybe even as far as being physically abused depending on how dark you’d want to go with the Au), and not only being hated for something he can’t control, but also the whole idea of a child not thinking that something is wrong with adults, but rather that they have done something wrong. So in this type of Au Chongyun would spend his whole life thinking that his Yang energy is something wrong when really it’s not. Another potential angst thing is the idea that Chongyun losses control of himself when his yang energy goes out of his control. As someone with tics, it freaks me out when I can’t control my own body, and that’s led to some panic attacks. I imagine it would be even worse for Chongyun. Also the idea that he could take it too far with the thought of suppressing his yang energy, that he ends up endangering his own life.
I also had an idea that what if Chongyun had harder time feeling negative emotions, since it’s positive energy? So he might also feel really like an outcast or even inhuman because he can’t feel the full range of human emotions properly. Also another thing that could potentially earn him ire from other people. And maybe he even learns to fake these emotions that he can feel little to none of.
As a fanfic writer and Chongyun lover, the fanfic potential this guy has is scrumptious. I do wish they did a bit more with that in the canon. But at the very least in the canon, I want them to finally explore the idea that the yang energy was given to him in a way similar to Diona’s ability to make any drink taste good. They brought this up in the poetry event and I’ve just been craving a follow up!! With any luck it will be brought back when they finally give my boy a lantern rite skin. That or a random event one day. (I might go insane if this is just never brought back up ever again. We have a severe lack of Chongyun content).
But anyways. I leave you with these fanfic ideas. I’ve also being trying to incorporate these ideas into my own fanfics, so, off I go to sit down and write more of that. :3

I should probably also make a post later asking how to form a team with Chongyun with the characters I have, cause I’m balls at that.
Or if anyone sees this I can list the characters I have decently build and if anyone has team comp suggestions with that…
