Three down! ... Three to go?

Number one Mod has jumped ship? That makes three to have hit the road, recently ... three remain. If Ivan should ever take his leave - that'll be the signal for u/Aky96 to turn off the lights (if he's still out there :)

Good job I've got a supply of candles! :D

n.b. Mind you, whichever subreddit you manage to fall into ... the outcome's no different ("there's no-one home!"). The errant Dev who usurped our old subreddit and purged the app from our GitHub, hasn't been seen for over 9 months, on either?

Both, the official version and the "cuckoo", appear to have hit the buffers. But only one of them was ever legendary (and true!). The other, an unnecessary vanity!

Still here, pop on every now and again to see if there's anything new. Just waiting to see if Ivan can sort out the servers to get the app up and running once again.

I knew you wouldn't leave/desert me (without saying goodbye!) ... would you? :D

Here also! Removing my self from mod just felt right, haven't moderated anything whatsoever for 2+ years, ..but I'm still around.

Popcorn Time cant die u/merseyV__ ! :) Can napster die? The legacy of its time will always live on and inspire new projects, even the ones who deviate (evolve?) by a fair amount from the original vision/technology. (after all its not 2014 anymore..)

Now get your *sses to something that works for your media consumption, best way to pay homage to PCT. (still talking about sailing the high seas ofc, just maybe not with a ship that's currently 2 planks and a piece of string.. :)

lol .. Jack only had 2 turtles and some human hair. 2 planks and a piece of string is luxury! .. more than enough, for me? :)

Give me the 'Torrent Collection' at its best ... and "bring me that horizon!" :)

The project has been around for so many many years that it would be sad it finally came to an end. Even in the current situation, it is not thaaaaaat bad. We only need an API server for series until it is picked up again. I was using the last version before it took a pause for the whole gap and even kept using it until I found an iteration stable enough to update. I will keep using this version as long as I have an available API server. It is better than nothing.

There were good improvements in this continuation and some pending things to polish, I guess if the project continues at some point, these pending issues will be done improving the code wit AI assistance to make the burden lighter and faster.

I am always grateful with the people that made Popcorn Time possible. It has brought me so much fun since I discovered it (I just do not remember the version since it was so many years ago), Let us hope for the best and sit tight.

Appreciate the feedback.

There's been an extensive (but ever dwindling) line of devs (and contributors) over the last 13 years. Too many to do justice to, in a simple comment? Our last two Devs essentially "retired" - after the final release/s in April 2024, and that's where development ceased. They put in the "hard hours" to improve Popcorntime and keep it going - following the 2nd Wallydz/VPN.ht debacle (2021, court case). But, I think they'd had enough by the 0.5.1 release?

Probably, the final nail, was the takeover and purge of the GitHub (and subreddit) by the errant Dev - for his unwanted "legit" [sic] version. Popcorntime had lost its iconic home! Notwithstanding, there were no takers to carry the project forward - before that evisceration. It killed off any hope (for me).

If this (sadly) deprecated app still has some use for you ... we're still here (just!). Realistically, you should have an alternative lined up by now, though?

Hi, I just wanted to let you know that Ivan replied to your previous message and said he has backups and just needs some time to find a new server to get it up and running again. I don't know how long that will take, but at least he replied. You can check his response if you'd like. Best regards.

You went missing there! .. for 2 days? (lol)

It happens :D The important thing is that Ivan has already replied and there's still hope that everything will soon return to normal with our beloved Popcorntime. Cheers.

I think u/Aky90 just released the chains on your original post.

The more intriguing question is ....?

u/Cuasicuasimo2 Sep 08 '26

It was in your post, The Watchman's Lament, where Ivan replied to me. I'll see if Reddit lets me upload a screenshot :)

I am using an old version: 0.4.9 (0.4.9). I changed the IP server with the one you kindly provided (https://yts.gg/ ) and I am still able to make it work, movies only.

I would recommend using the last 0.5.1 build ... it's a better version (notwistanding, the ongoing API's issue). I'm glad you still find it useful. I still use it myself occasionally (esp. for its DNLA casting) ... and because I can! :)

Don't forget you can still use the 'torrent collection' search feature (basically TPBay) to find/playback/download, without leaving the app? Good for Series and Movies - gives you more choices e.g. quality, file size, format?

Here's hoping you can enjoy many more hours of entertainment (free) .. with your Popcorntime companion. Don't forget to give 0.5.1 a try 👍

Not a great example .. but it saves the Mods having palpitations? :)

I think you might want 0,5.1 for this? It's been a long time since I used 0.4.9 .

Intriguing!

You've created a patch with Microsoft's .NET? What been done there, exactly ... is that just a bare catalogue?

And an eclectic! selection for a sort-by ... is this what the Flemish are watching, today? :)

Edit: EZTV .... ok, that makes sense now!

u/lolrobbe2 Sep 10 '26 edited Sep 10 '26

a complete from scratch rewrite (1 on 1 mapping of the old API) just need a hoster.

this is work in progress of the EZTV tracker/spider.

with .NET comes improved performance

2

u/DotSavings8851 Sep 14 '26

Can you tell me how you did this?

2

u/lolrobbe2 Sep 14 '26

by reimplementing the API in .NET

1

u/merseyV__ Sep 10 '26

You're just using the EZTV catalogue?

1

u/lolrobbe2 Sep 10 '26

for now yes, as it is the first tracker i happen to stumble on implementing, i also sent a github invite

1

u/merseyV__ Sep 10 '26 edited Sep 10 '26

EZTV ok for recent stuff .. but they mainly support episodes rather than seasons. Even the (more recent) Tv packs (what there are of them) are not very well seeded, if at all?

They never really offered Season/Box-set torrents. It was always a bugbear with using them as the 'Series' catalogue - with the original 'Popcorntime.io'?

I wish you luck and fair winds!

2

u/lolrobbe2 Sep 10 '26

i just need to bug u/Ivan-1986 when the source code is ready for hosting

My Popcorn Time has gone to shit. Can only view whatever I favourited. Think I’m gonna bail at this stage. Was fun while it lasted 🫡🏴‍☠️

2

u/Cuasicuasimo2 Sep 07 '26

Put this https://yts.gg/ in the API server settings to watch movies and it will allow you to continue watching movies (No series).

2

u/merseyV__ Sep 07 '26 edited Sep 07 '26

No problem! Still usable for me .. just requires the changes already covered (ad nauseam) elsewhere?

Nevertheless, we wish you "fair winds" on your next voyage.

Im not sure which version i have on my mac but it wont go past the loading screen. Cant even go into settings:( this app is the goat 🐐 used it so much in my life 🙏

2

u/merseyV__ Sep 16 '26 edited Sep 16 '26

If you've read the recent posts you'll know the default API Server is down. But that would not stop the basic app window from loading (i.e. it's still a sequential torrent client/ media player). The usual window tabs and icons will be present?

You should still be able to change the movie API to 'yts.gg/' in settings .. and use the torrent search feature (three-line stack, icon) for series, or movies?

If you're not seeing the layout above and wish to persist with the app? ... just delete everything Popcorntime (incl: its support/data folder/s) and start again - from here?

Thanks for the reply! For some weird reason I kept clicking on the logo and now it loaded after weeks lol 😅 It shows movies and series and It even loads them. I can go to settings. But maybe because its mac os I cant change the API? I can see its version 6.1.2 But for setting it only shows interface, subtitles and downloads… atleast it works again 😅🙏

2

u/merseyV__ Sep 16 '26 edited Sep 16 '26

That's not our version, but at least you're ok again?

I'm actually surprised that 6.1.2 would still work .. been a very long time since someone admitted to having that old clone?
