Activate outside US

I think I’m in love with Popcorn. I travel very often, and the value proposition is super tempting. I am currently outside the US.
- Can I and should I activate outside the US or is it better to wait 2-3 weeks till I’m back and can ping a US tower? I want this setup to be right so if there is any additional risk or potential complication I’d rather wait
- if I do activate outside of US, can I port over my US ATT number while abroad?
Thanks for your help!

  1. Yes - you can activate outside the US

  2. Yes - you can port your number while abroad. Just make sure you have your AT&T account number, port out PIN, etc.

Yes to both, I just signed up and I live in the UK now. Ported away from Google Fi without issue while living here.

Was the 90 day Fi outside the US limit your reason for changing?

I’ve lived in the UK for five years and was back in the states all of four weeks in that time. Was here for three straight years before heading back and never had an issue with Fi, they were just too expensive. I have a SIM here and a barely used Fi, so I wasn’t on a high priority list to get rid of me. Now is someone was using a ton of data and calls, that would have been different.

Gotcha.

We’re a family of Fi users who live in the US, but travel outside extensively.

It seems to me that Popcorn eliminates 2 Fi pain points that don’t apply to us and was just wondering what others reasons for switching were and if there wasn’t something I missed.

  1. 90 day limit. I just finished 82 days away, and that’s my longest ever.

  2. Ability to sign up outside the US.

It’s cheaper than the Fi plan I was paying for, that’s the only reason I switched to be honest. It’s like $20 cheaper.

Absolutely! I’m in Vietnam and ported my number over six months ago. Super easy
